What's your speaker set-up?

would recommend getting hold of a decent hifi separates system.... get a decent amp and as for speakers I would recommend B&W's of any age second hand or new.....

always had good sound with my B&W speakers.

currently use my own handmade speakers that run at around 1500w

The sub is really excellent I must say, never distorts and produces a nice warm tone. Although after about a year of abuse mine does have a bit of rattle at certain frequencies...

The top amp is the integrated amp which handles the input, and my speakers are bi-amped so this powers just the high range. The bottom amp is the matching power amp and powers just the bass/ mid range...

They both run into a pair of these B&W 603 S1 -->



Absolute badman speakers, the best I have owned....Would recommend bi-amping speakers (if you can) as it really makes a difference especially with the quality and tautness of the bass as the power amp can concentrate on lower frequencies without having to deal with the highs..

Inputs are a decent Marantz cd player, my trusty lappy with a sound card of debatable quality and vinyl decks through a xone:32 Allen+Heath

beautiful speakers indeed, good old fashioned no thrills & solid built, have heard these through a Roskan Kandy set up and they sounded deeeecent

what are the Rokit monitors like? need to get something for my room and cant be fucked to get another separates setup, looking for something active...do they run well enough without the sub or better to get both?

I've got the exact same pre-amp. My power amp asploded long ago though, was some customised HORSE of an amp. Was two power amps, where the power supplies from both were put in one box, and the drivers put in to a second box. Unfortunately it pretty much melted when I foolishly left it running for like 2 days @ max volume at a house party so now I've got some shitty rotel RB-971 MK II power amp which is horrific for playing anything at high volumes.
Well, it's not that bad. Infact, the sound quality is excellent (from running through some B&W speakers) when compared to my KRKs, but the lack of bass disturbs me. Then again, that also comes from having my speakers in the corner of the room in a pretty large room with terrible acoustics. If I stand in the doorway or lie down on my bed the bass is proper rumbling, but everywhere else it's flat. I'm too lazy (and have zero knowledge in acoustics) to put them in a decent place so the sound is more equal around the room.

I'm not a massive fan, just what we had knocking about at work and we needed a set-up for checking masters/TPs etc. Nothing bad to say about them really, just not that exciting either. I definitely think they need the sub, although we've got them in a room which is probably a little small so the bass is a little lumpy....I may be doing them a disservice but there are speakers I'd prefer if I'd had the choice.

The top amp in the picture isnt a pre amp, its an integrated amp...obviously it has the preamp stage inside it but also has a power amp inside to power my treble...if it is the integrated amp you have also, I would be tempted to not bother with the Rotel at all and just use the Tag- on its own it is pretty weighty and you might be bypassing the power amp stage in it if you are just using it as a pre-amp...

Rotel RB series are decent sound quality, the first amp I ever bought was a Rotel integrated, lovely sound but only 35watts RMS and in general was lacking in some real bass

I could stress enough how important having the speaker layout spot on, it probably is the single biggest improvement you can make to the sound, and you dont have to spend a penny...



This is basically the distance ratio it needs to be, and you will get the best sound when you ear is at the same level as the tweeter...I have a large room also but it is oblong in shape so have the speakers on one of the longer walls, and the main listening sofa on the other longer wall so there is less space to fill.... if you can get everything in its optimum arrangement as is in the diagram the difference is nuts, even when I stand up out of the sofa, the bass intensity drops..

Blue Sky System One 2.1 Around $2,500 US for the whole system, not sure how their prices are over in the UK. Amazingly clear, trustworthy, accurate response... possibly too accurate for casual home listening, but stellar for studio monitoring. By far the best integration of sub and mains I've ever heard, and the bass extension is pretty nuts, super clean and powerful down to 20hz.

Got a set of these Acoustic Energy "Aego M" 2.1's for £130 - decent system for the humble price, loud as fuck and extremely crisp sounding. The bass response is definitely solid enough for dubstep. Pissed off many a neighbour with these mothers. Not exactly a truly earth shattering system though, but if you just want some 2.1's and don't wanna piss a few ton up the wall they're easy worth the money.
