Low Limit mix for Brainfeeder - future of dubstep?

Post by Alby D » Mon Nov 29, 2010 10:58 pm

Really think you guys will really enjoy this mix, in my opinion it showcases some of the best production and composition skills in 'dubstep' right now. EDIT: (talkin about the first half of the mix, the second half is around 90bpm)

This to me sounds like the new sound of 'bass music', which is neither deep/chilled/ambient or bro/mid-range/brock out etc.

This mix has a real experimental feel be interested to hear what everyone thinks?

Also be wicked if anyone has a track list

this sound developed independently of dubstep quite awhile back...but it's bass heavy, i notice people are considering this dubstep now. to me it's always been it's own thing with some common characteristics (bass)

ye I agree I'm using the term 'dubstep' very loosely. And it's a term that getting looser by the day.

Would you call James Blake's remix of Stop What You're Doing dubstep? (It's on a another planet to old skl Mala, Coki, Skream etc)

This whole genre naming shit is getting tricky right?

i'd say yes to that tune....but james blake to me is on a different flex than a lot of people.

the glitch hop people will also call the brainfeeder related/associated stuff glitch-hop. is it glitch-hop? i'm not sure. actually no it's not....shit is traceable to dabrye and them. while ago

some people (myself included) just accept the term bass music.

thats my view on it.

and i see deadly posted a tweet referencing flylo saying they aint making "aquacrunk".

where the fuck "aquacrunk" even came from i'm not sure. presumably the same place as wonky, lazer bass and all these names. some bloggers/journalists.

aquacrunk is jokes though

fuck...

Yeah man, Brainfeeder and Hotflush are killing it right now, I personally liked 'wonky' as a name..

I can actually see how aquacrunk is a pretty good way of describing HudMo and Rustie, but not as an umbrella term for that whole beat-scene. I just call my ish hip-hop, that's the roots of it all.

Yes it did develop independently, but at a lot of the shows they play 50/50 dubstep and even Jungle/DnB.
So I guess it's kind of a merger. Trying to get more into the stuff, most of it it is rad.... but to be completely honest some of it sounds like really bad dubstep thrown together on an MPC in an hour or two. It's still a very raw sound and I think that'sd why people are attracted to it. The way things are headed either way.

hot tunes in the beginning there. lazersword is pretty tight, and certainly are progressing as well. wouldnt call it dubstep, but its def got elements of dubstep thrown in. good bass music

^ was just about to post that from the brainfeeder site.

This mix is quite amazing. I've loved both dubstep and the LA/Cali beat scene, and I feel like this mix has bridged the two beautifully.

useless argument.

On topic - some of those tracks have a definite dubstep vibe, but also seem to have a major influence from old-school techno and minimal.

Not really my thing, but interesting.

i love brainfeeder so much...

some of the best artists around.

1st one seems to be a remix of Para One's Liege (thanks to Shazam on my iPhone :U: ). Loving that one... when that snare cracks in it makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up
