Rumours that the Woodside would close came years before it finally did, but we needed a bigger venue anyway so our nights in the Artschool started in 2006 with Ranking Joe, and ever since we have enjoyed hosting sound system artists the likes of which Glasgow had never seen, such as Top Cat, Sister Nancy, Earl 16, Warrior Queen, Omar Perry, Tippa Irie, Sister Carol, Brother Culture, Lady Stush, Ruben da Silva, Daddy Freddy, Mikey Murka, Marina P, MC Ishu, Solo Banton and Afrikan Simba. It changed things around here. Now the reggae/dancehall/dub scene is evolving fast and for that we give a big shout out to all the Scottish sound systems, selectors, fans and artists, especially Daddy Scotty and Pupa Zeb, Bass Alliance, Kokoro, Jumble Sale Crew, Northern Exposure, Bass Warrior, Nafees, Argonauts and Soom T. Mungo’s residents have also shared the decks with some of the producers who have inspired them and who they have collaborated with including Disrupt, Jah Shaka, Mala, Dub 4, Phokus, Von D, Dub Boy, King’s Hi Fi, Mr Boogie, DJ Shy and RSD.
2010 has produced unforgettable nights with Kenny Knots, Iration Steppas, Congo Natty, Tenor Fly, My Lord Sound, YT, Mr Williamz, Maffi, Firehouse and Conscious Sounds…so much so that we can’t believe it’s time to move on just when it’s getting really good. However, since the venue will close for 2 years refurb we have been forced to make the move, and we’re really positive about the change. Still on the third Saturdays from January 22th 2011 we will be in Stereo on Renfield Lane, where we’ll continue to run tings and bring the artists we all need to hear.
But for one last time we will be wheeling out the rig, and playing strictly selection – no big names just you, us and bass.
