A user named Mikerabs posted the following comment on my first attempt at producing up on the soundcloud:
u suuuuuuuuuucccckkkkk really hard mate i know this is ur first shot at it but damn man maybe u shouldn't run ur mouth so much on all the dubstep boards.. ha u criticize the guys from circus records and this is what u have to show for it? doctor p and cookie monsta produce some of the greatest dubstep tracks i have ever heard and their thousands of fans would gladly agree with me.. it is amazing how they have progressed the genre from that boring dubby shit that you just smoke weed to and relax when listening to it.. hahaha do urself a favor mate and stay far away from producing dubstep ur attempts are pathetic
I wouldn't normaly bother responding to such a comment but had a bit of free time so wrote this in response:
As it states here and on dsf, this track is a first attempt. There is hardly any eq'ing and only smudges of compression here and there. It was mainly created by playing with presets and tweaking them. I didn't expect to produce anything near a master piece on my first attempt and, to be quite frank, I agree that this is pretty shit.
I started this track in an attempt to see what actually goes in to producing a tune and have learnt a lot about the process. I have nothing but respect for anyone wanting to put the effort into making music it's wonderfully fun and rewarding.
Having said this, I do not need to be a top notch producer or even a producer at all to be able to criticise music. If I go to a resteraunt and order a meal without knowing how to cook it myself and it comes out tasting like shit, i think I am ok to be able to criticise it. The same goes for music I dont have to know the intricacies of production to know a tune sounds shit (take my effort for example if you like).
I don't even know why i'm bothering to explain myself to you anyway I mean, let's take a look at your post shall we; first off (I am by no means a linguistical expert and my language isn't perfect) you open your post in such a way that the reader is forced to assume either: that you are an idiot with no sense of grammar whatsoever or; you are trying to make the post informal on purpose. If it is the first one then I needn't take your post seriously anyway. If it is the second option then, again, the post needn't be taken too seriously.
Also, I would like to point out that you think dubstep has evolved from that, 'boring dubby shit' into whatever dr. p and cookie monsta are producing. Look closesly at the word, 'Dubstep' what do you see? Let's split it into two words; Dub and Step. The first word clearly refers to that, 'boring dubby' music you talked about but, what about the second word? Step comes from the genre of music linked closely to the darker side of Garage music known as two step (a term refering to the pace of the track).
Just out of interest does anything Cookie monsta or dr p produce even vaguely sound like dubstep? Sure it has a similar tempo but that is where the similaritys end.
I do not doubt that their production is tight (they can compose better music than I can) what really bothers me is that they call this music dubstep. It really isn't anything like dubstep.
Then of course you get the bandwagoners like your good self, who jump on the scene as soon as it hits the mainstream and think dr p invented the genre (that there is an example of hyperbole so don't get too defensive and protest that you never once thought dr p invented the sound, I was merely making a point). They jump all over the place saturating the scene with their bedroom efforts that took little effort to produce because they followed a generic formula and flood dsf and other places with their tracks named in CAPS with (FILTHY teh Wobblez diiiirt) and other ignorant terms. Can you see why I may be a little bit disponded by you?
Thank you for taking the time to post on my soundcloud though I appreciate the chance to put a few numbskulls in their place once in a while.
Take it easy......
Snypadub.
Anyone had similar experiences with douchebags?
