Posted sets on the forum

Post by capsule » Tue Oct 25, 2005 6:03 pm

Since Dubway is back, all the new mixes are posted with a link (YouSendIt). I think this is crap. The download always fails when im halfway through downloading. Have to start over again all the time. The speed is crap as well!

I prefer the old way, when the mixes will be posted on the blog. The speed is much better and it they wont fail when im halfway through!

Anyway, i you get my point, back me up.
Im tired of this, cause its always the question if im able to get the mix!
If there is no other way, so ll be it!
I think the blog is an easier way to share mixes.

Anyway big up all people who are pushing the sound!

Peace

i do agree in part. whilst ysi is great it does have some issues. i don't like the fact that it's limited, meaning only so many people can grab and it takes forever to upload, making turn around times longer.

but it's not really fair on dubway to host all the sets himself, his bandwidth must get hammered. i'm looking into some hosting options for the shows i record, then i wil obviously provide a fixed link.

i think access must be preserved and ysi, probably isn't the way forward but demand for these files is getting huge - if only a 1/4 of the people on this forum d/l them - that's one hell of a lot of bandwidth

big call out to boomnoise, this guy works hard for all you folk, and alas im sorry that usendit is only 25 hits,i also feel sorry for dubway and his bandwidth...??
boomnoise, have u ever tried "sendspace.com" to me its a wicked site, same download speeds as usendit but it last 7 days !! giving more chances of people hitting it,i myself if i d/l from a non mega link try out of respect to mirror,i cant do every mix but i try, mega ok is slow but it has unlimited downloads,i use doa alot and know the fact that so many people just hit n run when it comes to audio, its rare even for people to say thanks !! strange to think those that d/l say there into the music, music online should be a community affair, but i have to say its not,go from board 2 board and its the same guys loading up and searching not just for there needs but for everyone....pisses me off that 50% written in threads via dnb/dubstep n grime music is "rehost" are man it crashed or the mc's shit on this ??? fup me its free music and alot of the time there rips,by law we shouldnt be having this !!!! im sorry that some links do crash !! but please also think that boomnoise has gone out of his way to rip and load up inwhich means time off the net for him while everyone else does what they want....RANT OVER !!!

big up all hosts who pay out of there pocket for everyone to rape !! and shout to everyone who understands manners by saying thanks and a bigger shout to all those that upload and mirror...u know who u are and thanks............tpi !!!

Hmmm...methinks that if so many people are grabbing sets all at once, then Bittorrent might be a better solution. It will allow everyone to share the bandwidth burden (provided that ppl keep seeding files after they download them).

If there's enough interest, I can look into setting up something like this. I already have experience running trackers on my own computer.

yeah, i suggest we use bit torrent. there's sites like The Mixing Bowl or Tekno Massif where we could post stuff. Both are torrent sites for electronic musc. Or if someone has a place to host it, it would be cool have a dubstep bit torrent tracker for us to post stuff on.

I'm a no name chump, put a mix up a week back, 15 gigs of bandwidth in 3 days. My server nearly sacrificed me to pay for it. Understandable why Dubway can't support it!

15 gigs in 3 days is serious! i think the most simple solution would be for people, if they can, to re-up files to yousendit or sendspace once they have downloaded.

Honestly I think Bit Torrent is really the only viable free solution. Other wise someone somewhere is always going to be paying for server space.

I however have little to no knowledge in how to setup a tracker into the forum, so using external sites might be the only way forward. :(

i know what you mean. when i did my radio show last week, i've had over 600 downloads. Chewed up a load of my bandwidth.

I never have any problems with yousendit that said Bit Torret is a good solution one minor problem is that you need to set up the d/l software (which can be a bit akward but not a biggie) and anyone without torrent software can't get the mixes.

If people created a new yousendit (or one of it's alternatives) link once they download that would help spread it out, plus if the files were zipped the d/l would be quicker.

here's are some alternative to yousendit

i think bittorrent isnt a better solution, as it wont work without having the uploader seed it for some days, as the problem is as always, that most people just download and turn off the torrent client afterwards. In the end this would mean that those few people that record and upload have to run their computers 24/7 just to let all others get the sets. No thx, i wouldnt like to.

The people need to learn to share more by themself so yousendit is a good start, just be so nice and reupload if u got something successfully.

And about the comment with zip compression: Doesnt makes any sense for the singlefiles that the recordings are normally as they wont be anymore compressable as they already are in mp3 format.

zip files are better for not raising eyebrows with your hosting company. if a hosting company notices you have heavy outbound mp3 traffic, they can shut you down. zip files can be anything, so they don't monitor it.

Legba, zipping the files wont help. I doubt the files will get much smaller when you zip them since they're already compressed into mp3 format.

The point is, sites like YouSendIt suck. It's a totally innefficient way of doing things. The files dont even stay there for more than a week. It's worthless. For me and some others, any downloads from YouSendIt time out too.

Bit Torrent would be better for us to use because it would allow us to redistribute the bandwidth load amoungst everyone rather than one server. The server doesnt remove the file after a few days like those sites like YSI. Files could be reseeded by anyone at any time. It would also give us a nice centralized location for all the sets and tracklists could be included in the torrent details.

As far as people needing a client, I suggest either Azureus or Bit Tornado.

not really a argument, as if u have really a problem with such outbound traffic, dont use unsecure p2p ;). or as alternative use any method that is ssl secured and voila not much to see for your isp 8).

for pure hosting on a webspace it shouldnt be a prob too, as long as it isnt any illegal mp3 content.

sumone, I would be willing to seed stuff if we were to do this. I'm usually seeding 20+ torrents at all times. If people don't want to seed and give back, well then they suck and aren't being the member of the dubstep community that they should.
