the mosh pit dying out? maybe...
just go to a park, make a circle, hold hands and push backwards. ??? lighting bolt and noise rock as a scene is really interesting, even though i can't listen to it for more than 10 minutes without tuning out. my friend who first mentioned noise rock to me about four years ago said " trust me and just buy a ticket. don't think about it. its all about being there in the room and nothing else." i never did, and i told him that the idea was nuts. 3 years later and i still haven't bought a ticket but now it's a global thing. they have live videos from everywhere...europe, usa, australia, japan.

Nah being in a mosh pit feels like that Lord of the Rings scene when they're all struggling like animals (don't ask me which one). + There's always a mad fucker throwing punches at everyone and starting a fight in the end. Maybe I ended up in a bad one tho, it was at a Converge performance and everyone was utter-completly-drunk.

what i find interesting is that this band lighting bolt, for the most part, don't like stages. they want people right up on them. thats whats interesting. the notion that you are now a part of the performance, just like them.
Re: the mosh pit dying out? maybe...
mosh pits always make me laugh
and yes before anyone says, i have been in some.

that vid in the top left actually looks like a zombie apocalyspe but theres a sonic forcefield surrounding the band keeping them safe

That's the case with many many hardcore bands u know, the Converge performance I was talking about was that same kind of thing with all the people just around the band banging in some kind of cave, although Converge's already a pretty famous band. But it only works with small crowds, imagine u got a taller crowd and half the people can't see you playing that's gotta be frustratingseckle wrote:what i find interesting is that this band lighting bolt, for the most part, don't like stages. they want people right up on them. thats whats interesting. the notion that you are now a part of the performance, just like them.

yeah, i see what you mean. that would be nuts if you had a bigger band. people tripping on your equipment, pulling cords out, etc. but the psychology is interesting. the circle is a really powerful dynamic, and they want that impact.Rönin wrote:seckle wrote:But it only works with small crowds, imagine u got a taller crowd and half the people can't see you playing that's gotta be frustrating

Me too...me too... these guys were local and helped to bring some great shows to town during the 90s.AntlionUK wrote: i really miss hardcore sometimes![]()
My last "pit" antecdote...A couple of years ago. A couple of co-workers of mine had a metal band going and invited me out to a gig at a place that was in walking distance to my house. So I pre-gamed a bit before walking over to discover that the show was actually a wake for a musician friend of their's who had passed. After the first band the crowd started to relax. Booze was being liberally applied throught the place amongst other intoxicants.
It was cool you could feel the vibe changing as the second band was warming up. Emotions were high and people were move closer to the stage and the old tell-tale swaying was starting in. Next thing I know I got the "nudge" from random person #2 and pushed back a little "nudging" random person #3 in the process... next thing I know the place just sort of blew up. Elbows and knees... duck / cover / spin. The whole dance floor was consumed by the 12-15 of us who felt that moment and we owned it for the next couple of bands.
The highlight for me was getting my glasses knocked of my face... managing to find them on the floor... put them in my pocket and help random person #4 up off the ground without missing a beat. I totally felt 17 again!

I am way too old to get in a serious pit anymore but, will never forget the random comraderie and emotion that can only be found in good pit.

i was all about experimental hardcore and experimental electronic music before i got into dubstep.
i love love love a proper pit but those seem to have gone the way of bro-pits in my city. i like a good old punk pit, A Global Threat style.
with pits for me its all about knowing the changes in the tunes.
The Locust in Toronto i literally had to start the pit myself i swear, and im a little guy. shit was so fun tho.
i just dont like brutal pits.
