Re: What software do you use to make tracks?
As the others have said, it basically depends on how you like to work, and what kind of look you want..
I enjoy the GUI of Fl Studio, and the Drum Sequencing, that's why it's a win for me.. And it's a great DAW for beginners, and advanced users alike.
I would suggest FL Studio, if you can learn it, you can learn any DAW, but then again, you might find another DAW even simpler than FL Studio.
Reason isn't too bad.. I don't really dig the Piano Roll in it, I'd rather use the one in FL Studio, as it is a lot easier to work with, in my opinion.
Cubase seems a little more advanced, it's not insanely hard to work with or anything, but I wouldn't suggest starting with it.
So yeah, FL Studio is very simple in my opinion, and if you can get it down, and understand it, then other DAW's will come easier.
Ableton isn't bad either, but it never gripped me as much as FL.
Also, don't listen to people who say FL Studio is just for noobs, or techno music.. Those are just haters, who think if you're not using Pro Tools, you are not professional.
Some of the best use FL. ;]

I use Reason, and I have Ableton aswell. I mainly use Reason, albeit I'm still trying to get to grips with Ableton.
I havn't a bad word to say about Reason, apart from no vst's.. but well, you dont need them with it to be quite honest.
Oh and I love Reason's Piano Roll

This track is the best on the album imo, and not only made in FL, they used the Plucked! synth
Thats what you use? I thought you used FL for some reasonJemGrover wrote:3za wrote:* Tracktionparavrais wrote:

Re: What software do you use to make tracks?
I don't think ANYONE on this forum would recommend pro tools for producing music :s Also I haven't actually seen anyone ripping on fruity for quite a while now. Think that phase could well be passing. Hell, people are even warming to Reason as a serious production tool now.MKRUGGER wrote:Also, don't listen to people who say FL Studio is just for noobs, or techno music.. As for me I use Ableton. Used to use Reason and rewire but I've dropped it in favour of Alchemy which is the bees shit.
Re: What software do you use to make tracks?
@ 3za I use both- Rewire FL in Tracktion, as it feels less fiddly when I work with .Wavs. Plus the GUI's nice and spacious. Dodgy piano roll though, hence the split between the two
Re: What software do you use to make tracks?
Logic and Reason. Thats like sex for me
but reason was what i learned on first and i think its brilliant
Re: What software do you use to make tracks?
aside from all the great advice everyone has given here..a thousand times, wouldnt it be possible to make the "wanna make dubstep? start here" thread's font like huge so people could in no way possible miss it i mean it would help us out by not having to write the same info over and over and they get to their information alot faster

Re: What software do you use to make tracks?
Logic and reason, aren't those the DAWs Sherlock Holmes used??Mannyyyyy wrote:Logic and Reason. Thats like sex for mebut reason was what i learned on first and i think its brilliant
Re: What software do you use to make tracks?
I have the joy to use Renoise for everything :3
I love trackers. I started out on gameboy making chiptune with a software that has been specially made for it, called "LS-DJ" (little sound DJ) which was a tracker.
Since this was what I first started on I found myself very uncomfortable with anything horizontally. (I tried Fruity Loops, Cubase, Reaper etc.)
But nothing was as fitting for me as Renoise

Re: What software do you use to make tracks?
is it just me, or is software a little vague. DAW or VST's?
Re: What software do you use to make tracks?
I've nothing but respect for people that can competently use a tracker. I've tried to get on with Renoise before but it makes my head hurt.Muta wrote:I have the joy to use Renoise for everything :3

Re: What software do you use to make tracks?
Logic, all the way. After using Reason for my 5 early years, the needing audio support to record people, I moved to Ableton/Reason rewired. It was cool and the tunes were hot, but Logic is a whole different level of easiness. After wrestling with Ableton to get vocals sounding good, they sound crisp every time they are recorded into logic with barely any effort.
Start with something else though, till you really understand sound, because I feel like logic does too much for me sometimes, and you really wanna learn how to fix and design sound your self then go into logic with the proper foundations to create something really unique.
