Dodgy press of Benton - Sinners (Box Clever 04) ??
Dodgy press of Benton - Sinners (Box Clever 04) ??
The copy of this I got yesterday plays really weirdly; the B-side is fine, but Sinners seems to speed up and slow down - its really weird! I thought it was just my imagination at first.
The record is very slightly warped but by no means the worst I've ever got from chemical. It might just be my decks, but all my other records play fine so I was wondering if anyone else was having trouble with their copy?

best would be to email chemical - they may have had other complaints, or they can contact the distro to find out.

I haven't got this through yet but electric church seems like a bit of a shit press too. I haven't noticed the speed up or slowing down but their seems to be no weight to it and is pretty warped. The TMSV release also holds no weight to it but I'm not sure if it meant to be like that or not...

Got mine through yesterday and although one side sounds decent, the other sounds pretty weak. I cant remember which though. Oh and It's warped so skips on one side when trying to queue it (exactly what happens with electric church). Such a shame as the music its self is brilliant but the bent 10"ers are not doing it any justice.

Bit unfair to say the least. If there is a pressing issue, which shockingly does happen, then return it and get another copy.skotyb wrote:It's good when you pay hard earned money for shit isn't it.
I love vinyl, but its future isn't helped when people mouth off like that. They didn't do it on purpose did they?!
I've had problems with warped records, but I just return it and get another copy instead of referring to it as shit on a public forum

I know what you're saying about the weight man, if you cue it a little bit hard it just skips out, and cold seems to speed up and slow down, hmmmmm

Re: Dodgy press of Benton - Sinners (Box Clever 04) ??
this is the first I've heard or seen of any pressing issues at all with any of the Box Clever releases - if you have a problem with a product you buy I'd much rather you take it up with the place you bought it, or the label, rather than plastering negative comments like this on the internet.
To answer a few points raised in this thread:
- weight of vinyl has absolutely NOTHING to do with the sound quality of the record. I personally don't like 180g weight vinyl for various reasons, including using less plastic and keeping weight down, so I use regular weight vinyl from MPO pressing in France which is the same as many many other dubstep records you probably own.
- pitching tunes can be caused by 2 things. Either an eccentric (off-centre) pressing, and I can say for sure that no Box Clever is mispressed in this way, or it's a warped disc. If the latter, then I refer you to the above and recommend you take it up with your shop, or maybe the label, and ask for a replacement.
- if a record skips when you cue, it's more likely to be a problem with your deck setup. Once again, I've never had a problem cueing with a Box Clever TP or finished copy.
Feel free to contact me if you have a problem with one of my records - it's far preferable to negative threads like this.
Cheers.

i was having trouble with the TMSV release changing speed but it turned out that my slip mats were too slippery. I swapped em out for a different pair and the issue was resolved

On a completely irrelevant side note.
Thinking, why do you dislike 180 gram vinyl? I wish everyone would use it. Nice and heavy, good weight. Less chance of breaking or bending... I love my 180 gram vinyls and wish more electronic music labels would print on it.

Re: Dodgy press of Benton - Sinners (Box Clever 04) ??
I find it harder to get on/off the deck - I prefer a flexible plate. Also because of the extra weight, I find that if you're spinning a record hard in one direction, it's a lot harder to stop/reverse in a hurry - basically I think it makes cueing harder, which is particularly annoying if you're mixing quick!
Also, like I say it makes no difference to the quality of the pressing, so it's just pointless extra weight!!

just got home, copy delivered from red-eye, and pleased to say its perfect can cue it furiously with no jumps and banged out a quality mix first time so no issues with timing
i got all the other box clever releases on digital but this 1 was too sick so went for wax, glad i did, 10"s are wicked plus loving the cut-out in the sleeve
big ups
