From Dubs to CD'S
From Dubs to CD'S
Noticed that a lot of DJ's that were once strictly vinyl and dub have started using CD's, got nothing against using cd's but, never thought that the likes of youngsta and walsh would stop using dubs, anyone also a little bit suprised?
Re: From Dubs to CD'S
It's a shame but I guess it doesn't really matter. The music is still gonna be coming out of the speakers either way.
But yeah, I do always appreciate the mix much more when it's on vinyl. Just gives it a more of a real feel I think.

Not really surprised, I remember reading that yunx switched because a lot of clubs weren't setting up their decks properly/had shit needles. It would be cool to see them using something like serato, just because watching them work turntables is a treat.

That may be true, but the CD's are gonna pass pretty fast with the way that CDJ's are built. Soon, there gonna be all Flash Drive instread of CD's. Flash drives can hold more and dont take up any space, a DJ will be able to walk in with his headphones and a pocket full of flash drives and thats it.
if you notice, almost all the new CDJ's have USB ports on them

Re: From Dubs to CD'S
very true. CDs themselves are already kinda outdated; DJing is a bit behind on that for whatever reason. Could just be the DJ's fascination with discs.DJSmileys wrote:That may be true, but the CD's are gonna pass pretty fast with the way that CDJ's are built. Yeah it's a shame that not all clubs set up the turntables properly, it's definitely got more of a feel, like sheff said, I suppose we live in a world that is moving on very, very quickly in terms of technology

and it´s really getting hard to find strictly vinyl djs to book nowadays, which is a shame!
i still play like 80% vinyl in my sets, though. but it´s true that the turntables in the clubs have seen better days

What i was going to say. I don't think it'll be flash drives, anytime soon.grillis wrote:I wonder what the D stands forhoney-d wrote:Could just be the DJ's fascination with discs.
Re: From Dubs to CD'S
Apart from the fact clubs arent setting up their decks correctly, people are sending over tracks to DJs all the time. They may not have time to get a dubs cut before playing a track out.

Saw Youngsta recently and when I noticed he was using the CDJs, my heart sank a little bit, because he is magic to watch with the wax.
The set was blinding anyway, but a shame.
Serato is the next best thing I guess...

Re: From Dubs to CD'S
I just hope that new DJs coming up know how to mix vinyl. You can't say that you can mix until you can do it on vinyl in my opinion. Personally, I think its about using CDJs and vinyl together, CD for the tracks that would be tough to get cut in time for a set, and then vinyl to throw in as well. Dubstep always has been a vinyl culture, I don't think it will go. When dubstep starts to be played with digital controllers with auto-sync buttons and the like is when we need to start worrying.
Id rather have the vinyl than Serato any day as well, and back it up with CDs when necessary.
