Secret Ninja's Night Out *COMPETITION CLOSED*

Post by EDN » Mon Jan 31, 2011 9:22 pm

Rrrrrright chaps! on April 9th 2011 the Global Café in Reading will be host to the Secret Ninja's Night Out, a night dedicated to all you lovely DSF members.
Forum members will recieve discounted drinks as well as super cheap entry (to the tune of £1 or £2 for the whole event).
There will also most likely be an afterparty where the hardcore forum heads can keep going until the small hours.

This will be the perfect opportunity to come and chat production, dj-ing, music or just plain shite with all those people that you have spoken with countless times but never actually met.

This is a not-for-profit event and anything we make will be going to the Reading International Solidarity Centre, a charity devoted to educating children (and indeed adults) about world issues.

It will be two floors of big bad soundsystems ready to fill all of your dubstep needs, from the dirtiest "smash your granny with a pickaxe" filthstep to the deepest, most thought provoking deep bass action and we want you to provide us with the music that we love.

We will be running a competition with 4 available dj slots so you can come and show us what dubstep really means to you. The winners will recieve travel costs (within reason), drinks, and super secret ultimate alpacacore prizes.

All you have to do is make a 10 minute minimix of the kind of tunes you will be playing on the night and put it in the soundcloud dropbox below.
http://soundcloud.com/secret-ninjas-night-out/dropbox

We will be accepting submissions until 12am on Sunday the 13th of Feburary, which should give you all ample time to come up with some banging mixes.

There will then be a week of voting by you guys to determine who has the best mixing chops and who deserves to play.

There will also be other awesome headliners which I know you forum guys will love. These will be announced once all the submissions for mixes are in.

So good luck and I hope to see you all there!

Only just seen this. I would submit a mix but I've never played out before so I dunno if this would be a good place to start XD probably a bit too intense for a first one. Defo try and get down for it though...cept Reading is like 2 hours away and I'd have nowhere to stay but er yeah...I'll do my best!

You have to get your first booking some how, at least you'll be playing to e-friends and not a room full of complete strangers.. Send a mix bruv, you never know!

Yeah come on bro rock it, you gotta start somewhere!
When the winners are chosen I will have to make some decisions anyway about set times based on stuff like relative heaviness or in your case, experience.

This is open to ANYONE no matter how they dj, how long they've been doing it for or how good they think they are or aren't.

Get a mix in and let us be the judge!

@Debaser: Whats with the lack of confidence? The mix on your soundcloud sounds pretty good. What do you mix on?

@Pete Bubonic: Hmm... its probably not impossible. And the guy who's doing our soundsystem does high end networking stuff for the BBC so if anyone would know he would...
Does anyone have a net radio station we could put it on?

This sounds awesome guys. I'm relatively new to this forum (I've started producing Dubstep recently), but I'm definitely going to try and make it down to this night, it sounds brilliant.

Lack of confidence is because i havent been doing this stuff for very long! I did it in logic man - which im very familiar with. but give me a pair of CDJs and im fucked.

Haha, fair enough man.
Just so you know there are people *coughmecoughcoughsplutter* who when necessary line up a phat mix on the DAW and play that with little more than a few effects as alteration.

If you could trim it down, maybe just fade into the first tune or out of the last?
The thing is if I say yes to 11 minutes it then becomes "is 12 minutes okay?" then "it's around 15".
It doesn't have to be perfect in terms of intro and outro, it just needs to be representative of the kind of stuff you are likely to play.
