stupid a cappella question

Post by ninjadog » Thu Feb 17, 2011 8:04 am

Whats with the a having a space after it? I realize it's an Italian word originating from singing in the church with no music or something like that. But common sense would make one want to say "an acappella" when refering to one. The space makes it seem like cappella is the real root of the word but no one ever asks for some cappellas, and some a cappellas looks like you don't know proper english, some acappellas makes sense to me. So is it just tradition or something that makes it spelled all fucked?

Like you say something is 'a la something else', it's an adjective. Wiki says it means like chapel music.
