MarcAshken - Roots Dyed Dark (Skream Remixes) (Leftroom)

Post by ramon » Sun Apr 15, 2007 2:23 pm

from Boomkat:

Probably (to my knowledge anyway) the first remix of a techno artist by a dubstep producer, bassbin legend Skream tackles Marc Ashken's minimal tech-house tracks 'roots dyed dark' and 'Size 3'. It's clearly apparent that the man has been listening to more than Dubstep recently, with the intro to 'Roots dyed dark' belying an obvious debt to sleeparchive or the current school of cold minimal. This sets the scene perfectly for the insistent subs kicking up dust on a rock solid 4/4 techno stomp something like the bastard offspring of Mala DMZ and Pan Sonic's Mika Vainio, honestly it's that good. Moving back to more familiar territory 'size 3' fuses a syncopated steppers rhythm with a chilly palette of sounds and a distinct techno styled progression to drive the floor towards that unachievable goal. Earning his stripes as a true master of suspense, Skream holds back a lethal LFO subbass attack til 3/4 of the way through the track and drops it with supreme precision clearing the way and laying foundations for your next track to get jammed in. This is an indispensable tool for anyone looking to bridge the gaps between uptempo techno and dubstep in their sets and a must for Skream fans everywhere.
