Retreat Bass
I KNOW this has been asked way too many times, but I can't seem to find an answer other than "look around on the forum because the information is there" and then I don't find it...I want to learn how to make that bass that datsik and excision use a lot ... the main bass in retreat by datsik...Im not asking so that I can steal their style, I just really like that bass sound and I want to improve my very limited knowledge on synthesis. If you feel annoyed by datsik/excision questions, you don't need to respond. I just want an answer after searching the internet for a week. So if you are willing to help, please do...but don't spam me with hate messages about this thread.
EDIT: If I get a proper answer, I'll make a tutorial about how to get the skrillex bass in Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites that sounds pretty dang close.

Re: Retreat Bass
Absolutely nobody is going to give you a direct answer to this so why do you guys bother?
Im not being a dick Im just telling the truth, any info you need to produce similar sounds is either in previous threads or through faqs and tutorials online.Nobody is going to tell you how to make this exact sound and even if they did it woul'nt do shit for your progression,it's way more worthwhile to learn how to make these sounds yourself and develop your own style

there is no direct answer man. its tons of synthesis, resample, resample, resample.
now prepare for some flamage lol

Re: Retreat Bass
yeah man its not as simple as just tweaking settings within the synth. datsik and excision resample there basses until you wouldn't even recognize it as the original sound. just read a ton, watch tutorials, and learn synthesis. im still trying to do the same thing...jrisreal wrote:alright then i guess Im fine with that...develop as a producer, thats cool
Re: Retreat Bass
Exactly, each sound goes through so much processing and resampling that pretty much nobody other than datsik himself could give you an answer to these questions.Just research all the basics like automation, effects, layering, eqing, etc, and it will come in time, just experiment,experiment,experiment.lyons238 wrote:yeah man its not as simple as just tweaking settings within the synth. datsik and excision resample there basses until you wouldn't even recognize it as the original sound. just read a ton, watch tutorials, and learn synthesis. im still trying to do the same thing...jrisreal wrote:alright then i guess Im fine with that...develop as a producer, thats cool

Re: Retreat Bass
heres a direct answer. since most people are dicks on this forum.
this is not exact pretty mother fuckin close.
in reason.
create a combinator.
create a maelstrom, use the throat setting. add scream distortion. add a flanger, and a unison.
crate a thor.
send the out put of the malestrom to the input of filter 3. send lfo to cutoff rate.
automate the lfo frequency and lfo speed.
compress the shit out of the synth. cut the super lows.
add a touch of reverb with a little predelay.
have fun being datsik.

what if he issn't in reason?
Anyways. Datsik does ALOT to his basses. cant really figure that out, but if you want to have a few pointers in the right direction that can result in basses like that, you should realy check out the midrange sticky at the top of the production-sub forum. some very good advice there! took me a while to get it tho, but im startin to get the hang of it. (just saying out of my own experience, even tho you read those threads, you still will have to be in alot of synthesis practice youself, and it will take you some time haha)
Cheers!

Re: Retreat Bass
thank you guys...thanks for the replies... and thank you guys for being nice and not flaming at me like some people would.
...I'll go try this stuff, and @Muta you're right...I'm not in Reason, I'm running FL Studio 9. and if it takes long already for you guys to figure it out, Lord knows how long it will take for me because I am only a beginner at synthesis...I know how to use 3xosc, plugins, and LFO - thats pretty much the extent of my synthesis knowledge.
Better get started...I'll get that skrillex video up in a few days hopefully.

Re: Retreat Bass
the imortant thing is overdriving it or distorting it BEFORE you send it to the lfo. makes it a lot cleaner.

yeah I agree...putting the LFO last just seems rightmakemerich wrote:the imortant thing is overdriving it or distorting it BEFORE you send it to the lfo. makes it a lot cleaner.

Erm, 3xOsc just won't cut it man. :/jrisreal wrote:I know how to use 3xosc, plugins, and LFO
You need to get your hands on NI Massive.
Let me know when you've got it and I'll give you some pointers.

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

No

Re: Retreat Bass
I believe every synth *can* cut it, if you know how to use it properly for your goals in mind.

@dannydubstep - for fucks sake will people PLEASE stop telling every newbie that they need to get Massive to 'mek teh wobliz' cos it's just complete bullshit. There *are* other synths you know

Re: Retreat Bass
"resampling" also implies that the bassline is not just made from one synth patch. it's several bass sounds cut-and-pasted together. so i'm 100% sure there's no way to just make a datsik patch in any synth, and what synth you use is most likely not important at all (unless there's some specific waveforms used that only one synth has, but i doubt it).

Is Scrapyard in any other synth?hasezwei wrote:"resampling" also implies that the bassline is not just made from one synth patch. it's several bass sounds cut-and-pasted together. so i'm 100% sure there's no way to just make a datsik patch in any synth, and what synth you use is most likely not important at all (unless there's some specific waveforms used that only one synth has, but i doubt it).

nah but seriously if you keep practicing in 3xosc and distort like shit you can get some nice sounds, same applies for any. Just sit for a couple of hours learning what all the knobs do, and make some sounds while doing it
