Who's feeling?

Preview of the new release on Bandcamp: http://phutureprimitive.bandcamp.com/album/kinetik

I'm big fan of Rain's releases and remixes to date, but the turn to dubstep just kind of doesn't do it for me. I like to separate my genres--typically that isn't a problem since downtempo peaked in early 2000's--Phuturepriitve is one of my go-to's for Downtempo-Psy-Ambient-Chill. That is not to say its bad, far from it, its just that he chose to go into the jump-up/tear-out direction of dubstep which I'm not fond of. Still, its not Subconcious but has enough sunbstance to have been worth it, 7/10 for me.

It could use more female vocals and samples used like in Luminous and Burn, but a solid release none the less. Maybe a remix album in the future?

Could you say it's tear-out though? It still sound pretty downtempo to me. Unfortunately it's like he's borrowed Excision's bass and ran with it. Which is a bit disappointing coming from him. I'm always happy to see artists go in new and different directions but it does not always work out great. I have mixed feelings for this album. He's come very close to pulling a Liquid Stranger; something I would not want to see, or listen to.

Its all about fusion, it is what it is. Its done well, and sounds good. His style is still firmly imprinted into this album, so that still makes it his. So much dubstep sounds the same anyway. I do agree that its nothing new, but its still well done, and makes for a good listen.

No, I suppose not; but it definitely has overtones of it.

Actually several from downtempo have moved over to 140BP: Bonobo, Four tet, LLoop, Mark Pritchard are just a few that come to mind. Barring Mark, none really pushing the sound that I like, but its cool to see activity from them none the less. I'm waiting for Mr. Scruff, The Irresistible Force, DJ Krush to come in and take over. I seriously think Goth-Trad and DJ Krush could make something special, Krush's atmospheres are practically peerless in all of electronic music, add that to Goth-Trad's use of the sound like in Sun Beam or Cut End... yeah, I'd definitely pay for a vinyl of that.

Krush doing 140 would be killer; but I'm not expecting it to happen.

I agree with you, though.
