Reason/MIDI keyboard question

Post by hudson » Sat Mar 19, 2011 6:11 pm

So I was sitting here editing the velocity of each MIDI note in a Rhodes melody that loops throughout the song and I thought to myself, "There's got to be an easier way..."

So, first question: Is there an easier way to, i guess, "humanize" MIDI tracks in Reason 4? All I have for a MIDI controller is this cheap Casio keyboard which does not have weighted keys.

Second question: If there isn't... I might sell this keyboard and pick up a little MIDI controller with weighted keys. Are there any relatively/really cheap MIDI keyboards with weighted keys?

Thanks guys.

EDIT: I could totally order one of these and still have cash left over :o
I thought these things would be more expensive. Still though, any other recommendations?

open up the tool window and in the "sequencer tools" section theres a note velocity area. just highlight your midi notes, choose your settings and hit apply

Yes, you should never use snares in Dubstep.

I know how to edit, but I'm trying to make it sound more expressive and human, and it just doesn't sound right to edit them in groups.

regroove then? ive always gotten fairly good results using the random velocity function. if it sounds to much like you edited them in groups, what about selecting a smaller group at a time to edit? other than that i dont really know, but there is this thread that might help you, http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f ... g#p2174607

Ah, yeah that's more what I was wanting to know. Thanks a lot, I just got Reason and I haven't even opened Regroove yet :P
