[critiques!] Beginner's dubstep remix of Bang Bang

Wow.... this is extremely chilled out... I really like this. I feel like the beginning before the dirtiness was a little too long though, and some of the sounds can be made a bit neater (YES I SAID MAKE YOUR DUBSTEP NEATER)

Other than that it has a great vibe to it. Sick work, just needs some fixing up.

Hey man, thanks alot. I'm having alot of issues getting my sub bass in tune with my sample. I'm also having creative problems figuring out what to do with it, because it's so plain right now. But yeah, it seems like when i have it running through a subwoofer, it provides that good boom and presence i'm looking for, but through headphones it seems almost out of tune or something. I literally just took out a bit more of the upper mid though on the eq for it and changed the attack a bit too to make it more of a presence than a BAAAAAASSSSSSS. thoughts?

Regarding the drop, i'm also tweaking the synths because the 'lead' seems a bit.. too gritty so far. im trying to find a good mix between the coarseness while keeping clarity.

Also, I have a soundcloud but I've been djing and stuff locally and getting some decent exposure on it, and I didn't wanna throw up a crappy WIP before getting the opinions of the dubstep forum, you know?

Figured i'd also mention (and future versions I post here will have it removed) that I threw in the extended intro to use at the beginning of a live set as an opener track. The normal track will probably just start with the 'bang bang' sample like 8 bars before I have the drums coming in to establish the sample/theme

Here's an update/bump

Got my sub bass a bit more in tune, and while browsing I read about using pitch correction on vocal samples, which might make the whole song sound a bit more in tune.. gonna mess with it today. Also lengthened the attack a bit

Did some drum EQing but i'm stil not perfectly pleased with em, i need to find a good ride/crash cymbal :p

Also fixed some panning issues and I have the sweep cresendoing into the drop

what headphones do you have? I would probably trust the headphones for sub bass...atleast my sub (which isn't good) gets the pitch wrong sometimes and I end up feeling stupid when I play my song on someone else's system and the bass sounds wrong with the rest of the track...also, the bassline (not sub-bass) in your track is way too dirty for me. It kinda sounds like me clearing my throat. I agree with antman in the idea that you need to clean up your bassline and make it neater. No way am I tryin to say its bad, Im just sayin keep practicing man.

Yeah, I'm working on redoing the drop. It's just not heavy/bassy enough for me.

intro is really nice but the 'filthy' bit could do with some more bass weight; it sounds a bit tinny

ever since KillBill iv always liked that jingle. its pretty dope, might need to modulate the basses a little more to get a bigger sound out of them but its got direction. keep it up dude.

i love how the mix sounds, do different daws give a different sound? like is that abeltons sound?

Thanks for the input guys. I think i'm gonna save this as a new version and just delete the drop and give it another go.

RandoRando: I wish i knew enough to answer that. Unsure about the different sounds regarding DAW's, but I personally can achieve a better sound with ableton than I can with FL studio, but it might just be a workflow kinda thing.
