hello everyone.we are planning a trip to london from finland to see some shows and our main aim after that is to buy records. what are the best shops to find dubstep?help would be much appriciated.thanks.

Black Market and Uptown, at opposite ends of D'arblay Street in Soho.

Once you get there your in record shop heaven anyway.

Go up and down Berwick Street for Sister Ray, Soul Jazz plus Record & Tape for some second hand promos.

Also Phonica at the end of the street that Black Market is on.

One way or another you'll get what you want.

Check out Smallfish in Old Street... tiny shop, big collection.. nuff breaks/electro/techno/dubstep/grime and random electronica a-plenty. And they do a nice coffee and toast downstairs...

Damn, haven't been there for ages. Used to work at Moorfields hospital and spanked my wages there everyday. Ah the good ol days.... *goes all gooey eyed and stares out of window*

dead-o if yr in the lewisham area for any reason check out Independance, they always get various bits of grime early annd sometimes have totally random stuff that nobody else gets, you just need to ask

Smallfish has a great stock of tunes. Shame its impossible to find anything in there. Last time I went in all of the stock was in alphabetical order by artist, lumped together in huge racks, so unless you know specifically what you're after it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

As has been said, Soho alone can sort out most vinyl needs. Do be sure to drop into Sounds of the Universe for some more offbeat stuff.

Record shopping round Soho always reminds me of being 14 and bunking off skool to go record shopping at Blackmarket and Unity Records...then off down to Mash on Oxford St to pick up flyers.

Smallfish was great before they moved across the street.. but after the move it seems something happened and the vibe, and stock, has changed

Yeah - I think I went in twice after the move and got a really bad vibe there.

Dunno if you read Time Out, but they've started dedicating a colomn to London's rudest record shops.

I vote Rough Trade - I've actually had records thrown at me when I asked to listen to them....
Second to that was Koobla. What a bunch of wankers.

LOL, I've always gotten really good service in Rough Trade (Covent Gdn). Koobla was a completely different story though, but well, they didn't last that long either. Surely the service has something to do with it.
