DARK DUBSTEP ...What you think to this so far? Any feedback?

Post by GV1 » Fri Mar 25, 2011 4:25 pm

Something I'm trying. I'm just getting into create the nasty dubstep. I love it on the ears, so trying to create what I'd enjoy, and hopefully others would to ... but whilst trying to stay unique.

Some tips, feedback is much appreciated.

well unlike msot noobies, I think your mid range bass noise could be louder. IF you want to make really grungy dubstep its all about groove, and that is mostly made in the interaction between the drums and bass ei the frequency of your wobbles etc... Try to make your beat more dynamic and really play with the bass, otherwise I like your drums they are sounding fat!

Thanks for the feedback bud.

I feel the harder dustep is a lot more complex and involving than the commercial, light/fluffy, stuff. One of my favorite producers is Broken Note, and his stuff feels as if it'd take weeks to complete a track. But, I'm not of these people that try to be like the next producer. I try to just do whats in my head and what I feel at that time. What I would like to learn though is the common elements and production workflow in that type of genre. Yeah it's still Dubstep, but I class the broken note type stuff as a different genre because a large percentage of Dubstep followers don't like it. It's like the heavy metal of dubstep, but I'm sure there is heavier.

Feel free to pass any pointers dude, I'm all ears.

Any pointers on getting that bass to the front? It sounds very muddy and muffled but if I listen to something like Flux Pavillion the bassline sticks right out and sounds fat. I know its something to do with the EQ, and compression, and maybe a few other little things, but that's where I am lacking.

Any pointers in that area would be much appreciated.

i like how the title of the track is "fuckstep" ... lol thats just FANTASTIC

I rarely use synthesizers, let alone massive but I still recognize that modern talking! :corndance:
...in my opinion

I agree with Lordbid on that man, it is nice that your not making your wobble overly loud. But I'd through some compression on that and boost the gain too (RCOMP is what I use from the WAVES Diamond Bundle plugins.) Of course you need to EQ as you compress as certain annoying frequencies will begin to pop out too much. I dig the dark vibe for sure though. -Midnite

Cheers bud. I'll have a play with the compressors later today and see what I can do with it.
