Your thoughts on *free/illegal* raves?

Post by TooMuch » Sun Apr 03, 2011 1:50 pm

Those of you in Manchester might now of the organisation GASHCollective and their free parties?

Well organised raves in specific locations from WW2 bunkers to Warehouses.

Last night they threw another rave in Warrington under a hench bridge with thousands turning up. I've read recently in papers of London hosting some as well in flat blocks but to a lesser scale.

IMO the concept of a free rave is great! A date is announced and a number is distributed to select individuals, they then ring that number and it tells you to go to an area and to ring back later on for the specific location and when that time comes everyone rushes to the place as fast as possible. Crams in and the rave starts. Who knows when they finish?? Some have gone on for days??

Heres some pics of some that GASHCollective raves have put on in the past couple of years.

Whos been to any of these types of raves? I was going to go for it last night but I couldnt really get off work. I was gonna duck but the double time on Sunday and the fact my mates didn't decide to go til the last minute made me go against it. I woke up at 5am this morning to see pics and vids on my friends' facebooks and I felt so so so rotten for not going.

Free/illegal raves are the one. No cuntish bouncers, 48 hour partys and pretty much do anything you want within reason. In fairness tho a few of the london ones iv been to were dangerous as fuck, its all dependant on the croud and vibe that night. I also like the fact thats its people doing it for themself with a DIY ethic as opposed to been dependant on overpriced clubs.

Free parties are good fun provided you don't mind being pulled over by the police a lot when you're trying to find the fucking thing.

Depends on the soundsystem though. So many of them just play really shitty Hard Trance.

used to go to a rave every weekend back in the day, only ever went to maybe three or four in warehouses in london and places like that, the rest were all in fields or other countryside locations.

they were great, but as time went on my tastes in music changed, i stopped taking that many drugs and gradually stopped going to them.

devon had a wicked rave scene, there's allways new kids with rigs reigniting the flame every 4 or 5 years, i may not like the music but fair play to the little shits.

Nothing wrong with a bit of Hard Trance, it's fun to have a rave to as the sun's coming up. But some of it is really awful and it wears thin... FAST.

The bigger ones where there are quite a few rigs are ace though, all about variety, you can say "I'm not feelin' this super-heavy teknogabber anymore, let's wander over to that rig bashing out the jungle" and it's all good.

I went to one and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. Pissing down with rain, mud everywhere and the rig didn't work. I wanted to leave at 2 but my car was boxed in, couldn't get out until 7am. My car smelt like a swamp for about 2 months after.

I've had this, but you have to take the rough with the smooth really.

They used to do ones outside in the summer here where I live they were fun and you would get these posh yuppies who were down on holiday turn up and there reactions were hysterical, there used to be a caravan where you could buy cans of drink and vodka and also pills and coke and that, seeing the posh buggers faces when they realised someone had just ordered a vodka redbull and 2 pills

Theres a video of last nights.

The DJ's experience of nights like these must be amazing. Conducting so many people all come together for this party.

They only get shut down quick when too many young kids turn up I've found. All the ones my friends had on the beaches during last summer, the Police turn up and see we're not doing any harm then bugger off again. We had one in a Warehouse not so long back, same thing. Police turned up, went on their way.

The best thing about these kind of parties is the DIY vibe to em. For me at least anyway.

Here is a photo of the system...

The only one recently where they've turned up and fucked it up was this weekend at one I didn't reach. Apparently they had coppers all the way down to Canterbury from as from as far as Essex! It was in land owned by the Forestry Commission though, so I guess it was a bit bait.
