downloading movies off the internet.

Post by dj slums » Fri Apr 27, 2007 9:07 pm

ok, i searched, and found nothing on this forum regarding this.

seeing as theres a big big rule against downloading tunes for many reasons, what do peeps think about downloading films?

obviously supporting your scene doesnt come into it.

is it generally accepted as the done thing? or are there peeps on here who are against this too?

your thoughts please.

Regarding this thread it seems to be OK to share movies, not music 8)

so anyways, I'll give you a (link Edited**) on my own risk.

EDIT: sorry for posting that link, I assure you that, this sort of information will not leak no more from me, on this forum

it's nothing to do with personal opinions, there are laws against copyright infringement and hence we cannot have links to filesharing/torrent services on this forum as we could be seen to be assisting/supporting such infringements. This is pretty standard practice for most internet forums.

Have a quick read of the rules:

At the end of the day it's really not very hard at all to find whatever you want if you spend 5 minutes on Google.

I think whats interesting here is whether the movie industry will let Apple come along and take the legal movie download market in the same way they've done with music downloads. Hollywood will see them coming this time but Apple'll be prepared for that so who knows.

Anyone know how to overcome the shitty flaw/trick in vista which means that torrents run slow as fuck, and the loading up websites is blocked while a client is open?

last year there was a web forum much like our's that was sued by a group of hollywood companies over torrent links posted in threads. the judge ruled against the forum and moderators for allowing those threads to remain online to the tune of $500k in damages. needless to say, the last thing we want is an action taken out on this forum over p2p crap.

It's not some tyranical motivation whatsoever. This is purely a legal issue, and you'll find that nearly all Music related Message Boards have similar rules.

you on a router? you might have to open the appropriate ports. vista doesn't slow torrents down.

http://portforward.com/

tells you exactly how to do it.
if you've got a router, it'll be slowing down certain connections to the internet, eg, online gaming.
'port forwarding', or 'opening ports', just gives certain programs direct access to the internet. you're telling the router to give it direct access.

DJ Slums
your thoughts please
I think d/l 'ing films is ok. Most of these companies make millions and will continue to do so whether the films are available for d/l or not. Most people prefer to watch films in the cinema anyway.............then d/l them.

thanks mate, this was all i wanted to know. no links, no names of sites or progs, just peoples views on the matter.
like you say - the difference being most films are made by big corporations, doesnt seem as bad as taking music from new producers.

personally, i still feel its a bit wrong doing it.

At the end of the day everyone (should) knows that piracy is illegal. If you do it then thats up to you........alot of films you would never go to the cinema to see anyway.....

meh, it is wrong you can say it isnt, but if you ask me the major film companies are askin for it. i mean most films today are made to make money primarily, an if it an idea is thought of as too risky etc it wont be made. hollywood makes me sick.

dont get me wrong tho, theres still good films being made its just ye need to look harder for them. which brings me back to why i download movie etc in the first place, cos i cant go see em in tha cinema.
