A disturbing and unfortunate trend

Post by dismos90 » Thu Apr 14, 2011 4:31 am

Ive noticed something terrible...over the past couple months, specifically the past few weeks Ive noticed an exponential rise in the popularity of skrillex and such shitstep producers in the heavily populated area I live in. These guys r slowly appearing everyone around me, this is what dubstep is understood as here. It hasnt quite slammed the US yet, but its really starting to pick up. Unfortunately, its "that" kind of dubstep. Im not one to get into genre wars or hating on America, I like to keep my opinions to myself and anyone can listen to whatever the fuk they want. I also think genres in general are fucking pathetic and pointless, but shit, I see the beginning of the end. I just wish that drillstep shite wasnt called fuking dubstep, I dont want to see the music i like unearthed and then quickly molested and disfigured even worse than it already is over here. As everyone knows, music comes here to die, or get murdered by media whoring and for a few bucks. I really hoped dubstep/real dnb would never make it over here in any kind of substantial amount, but mark my words, i think 2011 will be the year "dubstep" comes to America to die and/or transform into something even more disgusting than it has become. By the end of this year I think itll just turn into another pathetic subgenre of rap and techno type shit. The step wont matter, the bass wont matter, itll just be about asshole wrenching knife sounds and noises that sound like diseased females or transsexuals getting their cnuts fisted and there clits sliced off. This is the end, or at least the beginning of it, Im so sorry to anyone, anywhere who likes this music, because we all know what happened to real hip hop/rap...it fucking died, all of it. It didnt just branch off into whack shit and the real shit stayed, the real shit had no fuking air to breathe so it just disappeared. I dont want this to happen to this music is all.

okay you have some very good points but hip hop/rap is not dead lol, youre not looking hard enough
i know thats not your point, but it does kind of apply to every musical "movement" - yes, not everything can stay underground forever, especially if people like it (what a shock) BUT i do not think that means that the scene will irreversibly and suddenly go to shit with no signs of its origins left. youre posting in a community where (at least, as far as i can see) many of the people share your views and have a GREAT appreciation for the roots and best parts of dubstep that do not involve ass-fisting sounds... there are still producers that make real bangers, and that arent just filth. i hate to say man, but as right as you are, i think this message doesnt need to be spread any more in this forum than it already is...
just my two cents.

but rap aint what it used to be, cant argue that man...shit just get suffocated to the point where it dies out and even the true artists realize they cant live off dirt so they sell themselves out...but i agree with most of the stuff u said, i was just pissed off and had to get that off my chest lol. I dont even care about the whole underground thing, I dont need to feel special by listening to some unknown kind of music, I just hate that this style of music will basically be written off as shit and turn into something ugly. and yeah your right this probably has been beaten to death, but like i said Ive just been seriously noticing this growing rapidly lately and its annoying as fuck. i hope the needle drills and shit will get old, no fucking idea how they havent gotten old yet i was sick of it after 2 songs, but hopfully that happens and the great artists that still make great music will get the recognition/respect they deserve and the generic twats stop getting put upon pedestals. ill shut up now and burn some trees because im getting pissed off all over again thinking about it...

2day i respect your opinions about my opinions, dont tell me my opinions arent true because that not possible, the only quip of yours that holds any value is your description of my descriptions which are childish and vague, maybe your right. i do have a potty mouth, and i dont take myself seriously, and idont think that i, and my beliefs, are the be all and end all, that can be frightening to some such as yourself. just sayin

<-- posted vid with lyrics onscreen because that seems to be ur major gripe, these lyrics kill it

those are just tracks that are hot right now.. there's constantly amazing hip hop being dropped, tossed around, shelved, and overlooked.

look dismos90 lol i was trying to be calm about this but you are really just out of your element. sure, an opinion cant be wrong, but the concrete convictions that its based on can be dead wrong (like yours are). have a real hard time believing that youve searched for real hip hop for years and havent found anything that wasnt mainstream and stereotypical. just look around on websites, find some communities like this one where people appreciate real hip-hop and rap... you seem to have found one for dubstep how hard can it be to find one for rap?

I think there are two sides to any underground genre rising in popularity. When it happens there will always be producers who push it in an extreme direction, and there will be a lot of copycat artists who try to imitate the sounds and bandwagon jumpers who don't know the roots and history of the genre. What also happens is it introduces a lot of people to the genre. Many people who like Skrillex will want to hear more Dubstep and when they go to shows, speak with other fans, search online, and find forums like this they can find all different types of Dubstep. I don't see anything wrong with that. It's not like Skrillex rising in popularity will bring an end to deep, melodic Dubstep. You might just have to sift through more crap to find what you're looking for, but it will still be there. Personally, I like all types of Dubstep. I don't see why it always has to be one-or-the-other with some people.

have you heard any Odd Future yet?
theres a good place to look!
bottom line is, there are plenty of good beat makers, djs and producers keeping good dubstep alive.
Just in case you haven't already...try these out, maybe you will realise why you got into dubstep!

.Kode 9
.Ramadanman
.Loefah
.Mount Kimbie
.Untold
.James Blake/Harmonimix
.SBTRKT
.2562

This is a TINY list of some of the amazing stuff out there!

agreed, there r some meaningful hip hop songs, but then BoB, Lupe, J Cole, etc turn around and drop some bullshit songs too....because they want the $, the fame, the whole 9 yards, like u guys said uve heard it all before a million fukin times. but still the art gets pushed aside ALWAYS, maybe momentarily, but still happens. dont get me wrong, BoB and Lupe r nice as hell, but Ive seen that even they succumb to it in the end...( saw a commercial of Lupe walking down some dramatic hallway on his way to do a show in like $10,000 worths of clothes/sunglasses/and jewelry and thats just not what he stood for in the beginning) either way, u guys seem more right than wrong, I think i had tunnel vision, just pissed at the way stuff that actually matters alaways gets watered down into some money making bullshit, but i guess thats just the way it is. even some of my favorite dubstep artists have starting turning filthy little by little as they see the bright light, huge stages and shit like that, which means in turn less and less good, original stuff, and more generic shit. i totally understand fun music, i love bumpin lil wayne from time to time just cuz it still sounds good. again, weve heard it before, but when it stops being debated then all hope is lost. for example ive heard countless rappers say this same shit (nas, eminem, dre, etc) i agree with most of what u all said, disagree with some, but i think u all know what im sayin
