Where should I start?

Post by jVex » Fri Apr 15, 2011 1:47 am

Alright, I have no knowledge of dubstep what so ever. Where should I start learning? By learning I mean online. What programs are needed for beginner's? Any tutorial threads, videos, etc?

Please, I am amazed with the music. I just want to create it.

What are you on? You need a Digital Audio Workstation to produce, if you're on a mac it should come with Garageband which is fine for getting to basics.

If you search this forum there's a complete package that comes with a free DAW and a load of free synths/plugins etc that you should definitely download. From there it's just a case of watching as many youtube videos and tutorials as you can, and sticking with it for as long and as often as you can.

Come back when you have a DAW and can produce some sort of audio and then we can advise you on websites/tutorials etc!

Alright, if you really want to make music, dubstep in your case, you should do this:

1.) Download a program called Fruit Loops Studio. Go to the program's company's website by Googling "Image Line" and download the free demo version.

2.) Look up beginner tutorials on youtube, try searching for things like "Dubstep Wobble Bass Tutorial FL" or something, and that'll teach you the very basic of how to get a sound out of your FL Studio, and how to make it dubsteppy.

3.) If you really like doing it, just keep researching and learning and practicing and doing stuff, you'll eventually be a total rape boss and make epic music.

ya gots tah get ham vst...jokes.

but what chad said ^^ and also theres a free daw thats similar to fruity loops (but a pain to work with) called LMMS or Linux Multi Media Studio, although its also on Windows. And if your on mac, just use garageband for now and move to logic, ableton, reason, or something when you gots the moneyz
