2 hihats playing at the same time, causing phasing...
I got 2 identical open hihats, one pitched up, one pitched slightly down. When they hit at the same time a weird/nasty phasing sound occurs.
Anyone know how to mend this? Sorry if it's a stupid q.
Edit: Also I don't want to change hihat if I can avoid it ... thanks!

It's probably cuz their out of tune. Try playing around with the pitch until the phasing goes away.

Of course it sounds bad. It's just like playing two detuned notes, you get phasing.

Re: 2 hihats playing at the same time, causing phasing...
did you try flipping the phase on one of em?
Re: 2 hihats playing at the same time, causing phasing...
Yeah flip the phase on one or shift it a small amount forwards or backwards.

or replace one of them..

or change its frequency
or zoom in the waveform and fix it by hand

This basically.
If you're running through the basic FL sampler, you can reduce the start/end of the sample using the controls on one of the sampler tabs (can't remember which one without looking, the controls above the waveform basically)
Re: 2 hihats playing at the same time, causing phasing...
or pan them apart...

Thanks for the replies everyone. I set one of the hats to 180% width, sitting much better now
Re: 2 hihats playing at the same time, causing phasing...
a lot of people underestimate proper panning
