Someone explain this sound quality BS
Is it me or does my audio just suck, right now im borrowing a fasttrack and saving for a better interface like a Focusrite Saffire that was recommended to me or a motu, and all i do now is just use vst , and when i go to a friends pc my mixes sound WAY better on his pc then mine and more defined, and I mean WAAAAY better and he is using a motu ultralight, but the thing is people keep saying that soundcard/audio interface did not matter (and from the start i thought it did matter), and boom same exact ableton files just ported to another pc and it sounds twice as better with the same exact headphones,im mean like even youtube videos sound better then my quality could someone please explain if, altho i know what audio interfaces/soundcards do someone please clarify.... Im using high quality sounds as well.
and im using a celeron with 3gb(which im upgrading)
and he is using a core 2 with 3gb

Fast track sounds like shit, not gonna lie, but it is on the subtle side of things unless you have just psycho ears. I do not have psycho ears, and it bugged me from the moment I plugged it in, but still, I mean it should sound alright.
Specifically what sounded different between the two? Maybe you don't know what you're doing and you've got the wrong driver?
And it is bs that audio interfaces don't make a difference. Beyond functionality and drivers, just in terms of sound quality, it is only newbs and serious veterans who will tell you they don't matter. Newbs because they're don't know wtf they are talking, and veterans because they know it is the quality of the music and not the sound that is your largest hurtle.

from air in the mix to head room, and you can hear stereo mixing and panning a good effect with out it being hard panned, filters dont sound super old they sound great(unless im going for a oldersounding style but i can still control that on his motu, reverb and delay sound lovely same as panned sound, and most obvious that the shit sound crystal clear as fuck and not colored. i mean its kinda like this http://soundcloud.com/aires/air-space (mine) vs some guy showing some tut and it sounds twice as better initial wtf http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J-Sky3ErUSA the people on the internet who know nothing and telling people stuff it pissing me off BADDLY and from the years i'v been producing, i found out and been told your audio interface/sound card and any pc with a dual core like a core 2 duo with get you good quality.
i know what you mean the serious people only want to hear if its musical and well composed then sound quality and im like that too, but not ALL of my productions sounding the same and colored and having no controll of what sounds like what even with eqing the fuck outta the production,

Does your friend have the same monitoring as you? It also just could be your room's acoutics. Checked your tune, the mix sounds good and clear to me.
Re: Someone explain this sound quality BS
yes and same headphones, he even brought his pc with his ultralight to put everything to the test.
Re: Someone explain this sound quality BS
what about mixing to wave...like take a preset you both have hold c4 for 2 bars, export to wave with no efx and compare the 2 wave forms in a sound editor. if you could send me both the wave forms i could do an inversion test to see whats actually different sonically
Re: Someone explain this sound quality BS
great idea, but not sure where im gunna find him now, the kid is about 8 states away from me.efence wrote:what about mixing to wave...like take a preset you both have hold c4 for 2 bars, export to wave with no efx and compare the 2 wave forms in a sound editor. if you could send me both the wave forms i could do an inversion test to see whats actually different sonically
Re: Someone explain this sound quality BS
actually, i did notice diffrence when i render on interface and off, i can send you a comparison, the most noticable thing it the stereo space, it will take a while to notice but its there.
Re: Someone explain this sound quality BS
When you render out of your audio application, it is the application and your cpu that does the rendering. The audio drivers and audio hardware merely convert digital audio into analog audio, and again, are not involved in the rendering of your audio.
A better test would be to use the same audio file, run it out of both interfaces, back into the interfaces and record that back to digital audio. Then compare both of those in audio editors.

??? IT DOES !!!but the thing is people keep saying that soundcard/audio interface did not matter (and from the start i thought it did matter)
soundcard is not used when you render, so... useless ?
monitors are not used when you render, so... useless ?
your ears are not used when you render, so... useless ?

Im starting to thing cpu and memory also take part in this and DR Driller where NOT talking about rendering, were talking about IN DAW.
and im not sure how im going to record my daw and post it, but my pc is generations behind, and if i did a render now, they would be the same.
but i still will anyways
