Is it possible that I was just not made to produce dubstep?
As much as I love listening to the genre, I can't stand producing... It's been months of working in Reason, and everything I do consistently sounds like shit... I just don't enjoy doing it, simply because of all the eq'ing, mastering, and creating synths... Twisting knobs and watching tutorials just isn't fun to me... I don't know.

Lol.
I gave up on that as well. As much as I would like to produce my own tunes, it just wouldn't work.
So I just decided to stop and try not to think of it anymore, saved me alot of frustration.

It's ok man. There is no harm in listening. There are far too many people that produce just for the sake of producing since it's the new "it" thing.

try producing other genres man, thats what i do, sometimes i just cant make dubstep for a while, so i make techno, house, or even some downtempo shit....then when i least expect it i get inspiration to make dubstep tunes, i mean im no pro, but i think my sound has come around nicely, my mix downs are way better than before, i just need to expand and be more creative instead of eyeing someone elses sound
Re: Is it possible that I was just not made to produce dubst
Never worth doing something you don't enjoy unless someone else is paying you big monies to do it.
If you've got what you consider good ideas but hate the actual process of implementing them then maybe try and find a production partner who is more up on the tech side of things?

"months" it takes years of practice, it's like anything else. why do you want improvement so fast? i make music because i enjoy it even if it sounds like shit, i'm no pro but my last project on reason was definitely better than my first

Dubstep is one thing....but are you into like any hip hop as well? (Flylo, Samiyam, Madlib etc) cos sampling and looping and making hip hop beats is so much more fun than dubstep imo.
and yeah every Joe Nobody is a producer these days!

just do like myself and make it as a hobby... if you suck, no pressure, cause no one is listening anyway

Start mixing ? if you don't already. Its what i did...I tried production when i first got into electronic music, tried and tried for months then gave up. Went and brought decks and its pretty much the next best thing.
Cheaper it seems also

i've been producing electronic music for ten years... and definitly i still suck on it.. btw i still get fun doing it so i follow !
if you have any other goal than just getting fun, just stop.
i remember teaching how to produce music on a french forum to a 20 years old fucking noob, 6 month later i was buying his tunes.. some guys are made for it, if you were you would have already notice, most of us aren't..
Re: Is it possible that I was just not made to produce dubst
Persevere. Production has a much bigger learning curve as oppose to say mixing. Mixing can be learnt in a matter of days and will always be more appealing to a greater audience because you can get results pretty much instantly.
If you don't have friends who know how to produce at a decent level or someone to sit down and show you the basics of reason and you are serious about production then it may be worth doing a course or paying someone for lessons. I am lucky enough to have a few mates who know their stuff and although are still at a beginner stage are still able teach me what they know and give me some direction so i can sit down for a few hours on my own and get a some ideas down. I wouldn't worry about mastering and eqing for now tbh.
