propellerhead's reason.

its by far the most stable and cpu efficient daw out there.

i know someone who used it on an old G4 macbook, but i think they had 512mb of ram or possibly even 1gb. you may want to buy a used upgraded pair of ram.

plus theres no vsts that you need to buy or eat up cpu power. strictly reason plug ins which are very cpu efficient.

as for hardware, just get yourself a midi keyboard (i use a mpk25, but a m audio oxygen 8 should do the trick). also a sound card that you can afford (i use a focusrite saffire 6), and at least a set of good studio headphones, or preferably studio monitors.

thats really all you need to crank out tunes.

good luck!

Instead of making dubstep with a g4, try being fly like a g6

Reason, as someone said, its low taxing on the cpu. Maybe not the latest version, try getting reason 3
