Just to let you know Cyantific will be recording his 15 year of Hospital set LIVE at the party next Sunday.
For anyone who was at Brixton Academy a few weeks ago, Cyantific’s “15 Years Of Hospital” set was an undisputed stand out from the evening. Celebrating 15 Years of Hospital Records, the Hospital veteran dug deep into his record box to dust off some old forgotten gems and weave them seamlessly into an hour’s mix alongside iconic classics and fresh Hospital hits.
Normally, this would be a one off occasion but this time we’re in luck, as Cyantific will be performing his 15 Years Of Hospital set again in Hospitality Brighton on Sunday 29th May! In anticipation of this auspicious event, we caught up with Jon Cyantific to find out what we can expect…
You debuted your 15 Years Of Hospital set at Brixton a couple of weeks ago and it went down really well. Was it hard to represent a decade and a half’s worth of music in such a short space of time?
It was nearly impossible! I forgot how much great music had come out over the years. I wanted to represent everyone fairly as well. I could’ve easily done three hours!
You say you took 6 weeks to put the mix together. How did you go about making the selections? What was the process like?
I started out with the essentials. And that was at least 15 tunes, which was over the half the set. Then I filled it in with some left-field ones that I really love, like ’8-Bit Blues’ by Syncopix for example. It became a process of elimination.
What are some of your personal highlights from throughout the 15 Years of Hospital Records?
The nights at Heaven were special to me. That’s where I really cut my teeth as a DJ. There’s loads of other great times, like the 10 years of Hospital tour, ‘Ghetto Blaster’ being released, the ping-pong table that used to be at the office, the old office in west London (I miss that place). It’s hard to name one, I guess it’s just nice to be a part of something like that!
For those who weren’t there at the Brixton event, could you just give them a sneak preview as to what they can expect from your 15 years set in Brighton?
A lot of great music, in a very short space of time. There’s a couple of emotional moments too… haha!
