Fruity Loops "WUB"

Post by Gafandriel » Tue May 03, 2011 1:28 am

What's up dubheads!

I've been a regular to these threads quite some time now, and I guess I'm just finally getting around to posting. Before you start flaming, I have had multiple exhaustive searches in both these forums and the world wide web, but have yet to find someone who can answer my question. I have spent hours on my own searching within the program for a way around this seemingly impassable dilema, but have yet to have any avail..... so I'm calling upon the Dub gods for help.

In fruity loops, I can get the right "sound" that I'm looking for, but I can only get it to oscillate one rhythm. For example - in my song, I want it to wub a c3 on quarter notes, but I want to jump up to the 5th or the octave in between the quarter notes and have it wub at eighth notes, or triplets. Now when I go to change the oscillation to the eighth notes, I lose the quarter note wub and everything in the pattern becomes 8th notes. I've tried making multiple patterns and changing those, but it seems like it's a fairly universal change, so my OSC across all channels grabs it's LFO.

Basically, I'm stuck with only one "wub" rhythm for the entire song. I could load up another instrument, but that would change the sound entirely, and I would rather just use the same instrument across the board!!!

Anything would help - literally, ANYTHING.
I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy that can get me just about any program for real "cheap" so if you have a solution to my problem via an alternate route, get at me!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Get at me!!
Thanks heaps

just clone your instrument and change the lfo rate on it.

Chad - that would technically work, but it's not what I'm looking for. If I were to do that, I would then have to have two different roles open or recordings and I would still have two different instruments with two different LFO, when I'm looking for 1 instrument with a changeable LFO. That way when I go to record, I don't have to record a track with quarter notes, then a track with the trips or 8ths over that.

But who am I to judge, I'll give it a try!

Oh, I forgot you didn't have a piano roll like I do in Fruit Loops Studio.

idk how to solve your problem other than that though.

Clone.
Adjust the ASDR in the synth.
Piano roll edits.

Combinations of the above?

you can assign the sound to a mixer and load a filter on it and then on the cutoff, right click and hit edit events...then do something like this
Image
Hint: If you want to draw a perfect LFO, highlight the portion you want the lfo to be on and press Alt+O
...in my opinion

depending on your daw - you may be able to make edits in the midi clip you're working with, in the piano roll OR - look up automation :) Another option is to keytrack the lfo rate. this will mean higher notes = faster lfo rate, lower notes, slower lfo rate. This is very hard to get right though, and you'll lose control of it pretty quickly.

You can do that, too.

There are between 25 and 150 different ways to do what you want to do in fruity. But none of them are going to be as easy as just thinking what you want.

You're going to have to click, and create, and link some things if you want to do what you want. And fl is still the easiest and most flexible daw to do this in.

This isn't a video game, though, production takes a lot of work. Work much more difficult than cloning your synth, or any of the other things that seem too difficult for you to do. That's just a heads up. Get ready to do what you have to do.

I gave the keytracking LFO rates a shot, but I really couldn't get it to work. And I've tried messing around with automation clips before, but they ALSO aren't making a while lot of sense to me. My biggest problem is having so much in my head, but not being able to convery my thoughts through any particularly helpful medium. I've had fruity loops for about two weeks now, and I'm doing my best to learn on my own, but that can only take me so far! I'll get something up soon though, so I can at least get some pointers. Thanks heaps for the help all!

depending on how fast you pick stuff up - it'll be months before you really start getting shit together :P I'd say 3-6 months if you really push yourself hard and practise every day. automation is something you'll need to learn, so just keep practising :) It's definitely the best way to do what you're after.

Yeah brub, in all honesty, just forget about making songs and stuff right now. Just try to do little simple things, and when you can't figure out how to do them, just spend time learning. Your masterpieces can wait a few months/years/decades, however long it is going to take.

If you're using 3xOsc.. you can right click 'edit events' on the rate knob.. then draw in the speeds from there.
I can't explain it very well..
Just hit 'edit events', get drawing and you'll see what I mean. :)

Midi learn to a knob on your midi interface if you have one.
Twiddle the rate to hear what you like and then record the automation.
Turn on used automation lane and edit it to suite your needs.

Use Camel Phat and automate the LFO cutoff of the HP Filter High.
Great`s a gritty sound with a good wobble.
LFO to the HP High at say 1/4T or 1/8 and LFO the Lowpass filter cutoff at a different rate.
Great a cool wobble wobble.
Like a wobble within a wobble.

Make use of the Fruity Fast LP or the Fruity Filter.
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?

Edit events like jrisreal had a picture of, or you can automate like nowaysj had a picture of :)
