I believe that is used for surround sound sir, no point in using it if you dont have a 5.1 capable sound card, but before i tell you anything else, move your damn toolbar or put on autohide, that shit looks UGLY

Aye, it shows you what's going on with your stereo field.

Something totally mono will be a straight vertical line. Something 100% out of phase between left and right will be a horizontal line. A monophonic sound panned hard left right will be a diagonal line.

In truth they aren't really all that useful - obviously too straight/centered means there's too much in the middle, too fluffy and horizontal means there's too much width... but if it gets to the point where it's that visible, one would hope to already have heard it ;)

FWIW I use one on every track I work on, as the analogue gear can shift things left/right a shade. I mono the track pre-analogue to check it's all coming back centered before recording the final version. So it's handy for things like that :)

Lol. That tool bar just is cutting of so much of his screen, and I'm not sure if that is maccs avatar, or his avatar is broken, cause I like to have a image to remember people by on here, like u Lyons, I picture a green and red swirl thing when here hear the word lyons

The scoop can help you see if your song is tilting (for example. if the bass pans out to the right or the left). Its often easy to hear and most people will put there bass in mono so the problem wont occur. But sometimes its handy.

What can be useful is whats under the scoop. The phase meter. Put it on your master chanel and it should go all the way to the right and stay there for the entire song. If it goes in to the middle it means you have problem with phasing. Your sounds are mute-ing each other. If phasing is the problem you need to do a better mix or change your sounds.

you should be aiming for a vertical line with a bit of body.
Solo bass - should be vertical line not much body
High end - can be wider....

becareful of presets as the programmers make these bizare super phat sounds which sound cool when you flick past but will cause headaches when mixing/mastering....
Logic has so many panning sub basses..... :u:
