Re: key to a song
You need to learn some basic music theory to understand keys and their relationship to a song.
Try this - http://ravenspiral.com/ravenspiralguide.pdf
EDIT - You already started a thread about musical theory in relationship to producing, where a lot of the information re; keys/scales etc has been mentioned - http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=197439

Re: key to a song
The key is the root note of the melodic aspects of the song... the included it because you should work in A and tones which mesh well with A harmonically. basically, if they made the lead's for the song in the key of A, and you slap a bassline after them in BSharp, its going to sound all kindsa out of place. Make some kind of sense?

Re: key to a song
Just wikipedia 'A major' and it tells you what notes are in that scale. There is a scale for every note ie B major, C# Major, etc, and there are also 'minor' scales for every key as well ie B minor and C# minor, it's just a group of 7 notes that harmonically soud well or fit with each other which more or less fully comes into play when writing chords.
