THE eject button has been pressed on the audio cassette for the very last time.

Currys, the UK’s biggest electronics retailer, yesterday announced it is to stop selling the tapes.

Woolworths and HMV have already removed them from their shelves.

Currys also predicts this Christmas will be the last time it sells hi-fi systems with tape decks included.

as a matter of fact all my mixes are on the tapes and none of them are on a CD or mp3 format. maybe one day I'll come to this to record a set with SoundForge...

And yes, I'm a proud owner of Yamaha stereo cassette tape deck.

more like its dead in western culture. its still going on pretty strong overseas. Im gonna pick up a cassette deck tomorrow at goodwill for a couple bucks to use as both a signal processor and to record with

im thinking of releasing a few tracks on a cassette in the near future as well. the tape doesnt have to die

Funny this came up, I was just haveing this discussion the other day...

My girl recently had her car stolen, (I hate LA sometimes...) but luckily her old one was still in storage cause her parents never got around to selling it. Her old car only has a tape deck, so Ive been taking advantage of it and playing all my old tapes. So much good music!

I miss the cassette as a format. So many options for the mix. Two different short mixes? One long one?
...or my personal fav, the looped mix. I made a few mixes back in the day where I started in the middle of one song, then ended the tape with the same song near the middle, so that when you left it in your auto-flip tape deck it didnt really have a begining or end...

A lot of places her in LA have quit selling tapes, but you can get still get them at Guitar Center and most dollar stores or Big Lots - I just picked up a 6 pack of 90mins for $1.99.

Now that I think about it, Im gonna record my show tonite to tape as well as the archives...

Im with ya Misk, I may even put out a new mix on Cassette only...

must say i love rockin the old tapes in the car stereo.

made sure i bought a fat tape deck and some good metal cassettes a few years ago to keep the format alive, in my house at least.

I like doing mixtapes on actual cassette tape - then they end up on cd for practical reasons...(and then end up as mp3's on barefiles!) - what's happened to Deapoh btw ?

tapes have a particular sound that can't be beat really but when it comes to making copies for people its a bit time consuming ....never stopped people back in the day (!) but no-one seems to have time for the real time copying process these days....

I thought it was weird when they said they were getting rid of vhs videos - is everyone straight dvd recording these days ? I don't have a tv so it seems abstract to me anyhow...

i think its just nice to have a music process that involves abit of effort if you love music, you should enjoy the entire process.

it's amazing how instrumental the mix tape was in spreading the sound in the 90's...

sad to see it go. i used to make record mixtapes in my bedroom almost daily back then.

i only miss tapes for nostagia.

for listening i switched to cd's in about 1994 and to mp3's in about 1997. all important tapes, mixes, etc...->wav files on my computer.

tapes sucked balls when they were all we had, admit it.

before the 8-track digi the boom box tape deck was the way to record tho, up until about 1998 or so.

and i've used tape decks with cassette walkman adapters on ghetto-rigged soundsystems a million times. gots to hook up the laptop to the grandma's 1974 chrysler cordoba's tapedeck!

i'd really like to buy an old real to real to run my final mixes thru tho....
