"Brostep" fan just checked out/enjoyed "real dubstep".

Post by SpatZ » Sun May 29, 2011 4:14 pm

And I thoroughly enjoyed it! It's a totally different vibe for sure; much more laid back, less "intense" and constantly in your face. I had a background in classical music and death metal prior to discovering bro/dubstep, so I have a huge appreciation for both ends of the musical spectrum.

My only concern is that I haven't yet found people on this forum who share my interests; or at least are willing to be as open-minded as I am. Some people seem to get far too defensive over their beloved genre that it distorts their views and causes them to perhaps become a bit ignorant?(Don't mean to offend, I'm just calling it like I see it). Is there a forum or some place where I can interact with people who like the more "extreme" side of dubstep music? And no, don't link me "brostepforums.com" or whatever, haha. I get the joke, and it's pretty amusing, but I'm FAR and away from a "bro". I've been serious about music all my life and I'm a self-taught guitarist of eight years; playing everything from classical to jazz to black metal.

I just don't want to waste anybody's time here or my own trying to have intelligent discussions about "brostep". You guys can hate it if you want and if anything I understand and respect that to an extent. I used to be the same way with death metal when I was like 17-20. I'm 22 now and I realize that everybody has different tastes. Your "true" dubstep isn't going anywhere, it'll always be there for you. Live and let live.

If you could direct me to somewhere populated by more people with similar views on dubstep then that would be greatly appreciated! Or have I just come across some particularly angry, closed-minded individuals? It's a bit discouraging reading this forum sometimes, to be honest.

I think you were going for the term "oxymoron" if you were taking a stab at how you believe there's no such thing as an intelligent discussion about "brostep". I appreciate your interest in my thread, however. Have an amazing day, good sir!

Think he meant the irony of you trying not to waste anyones time or your own arguing about it but you are wasting time and an argument will happen.

You simply shouldn't made a thread if you weren't looking for an argument and just joined onto all the awesome threads that are about "real dubstep".

Ah. Well, that's why I made this post :). Technically if I make a post to ask if I'm wasting time or not, and I get an answer, it wouldn't be a waste of time now would it. Hopefully I get an honest, constructive answer soon!

Not a troll, my good man. Simply someone trying to find like-minded individuals to network with who are a bit more open-minded than the people I've come across on these forums so far. I'm a nice guy and really easy to get along with, I'd just like the same. At least for this one post, lol.

To be honest, everywhere you look on this forum there is a good amount of half decent threads, even in the General Discussion. You don't need to be pointed there, you are there.

I unfortunately haven't found very many decent threads regarding the style of dubstep I enjoy the most. I suppose I'll have to keep an eye out. I'm also a bit hesitant to make posts of my own on the subject, but maybe I'll just grow a pair and see what happens. Thanks for being the first semi-useful response.

I appreciate the thought and kind words. I'll keep an eye out for sure. I'm just trying to find the perfect place online to network and become part of an active community.

You want to be open-minded. See threads concerning other styles of dubstep. I bet you find at least one gem in there. :)

I wish there was somewhere on the internet I could talk about dubstep to other people who enjoy music.

I actually have checked out a few of the threads and I enjoy the different styles of dubstep I've heard. I know I can discuss those kinds here because that's what you guys are into, but I'm just asking if there's somewhere I can go to talk about the robot-noise-style dubstep so I can be an active member of both communities without running into know-it-alls.

Hahaha, all right then. :D. I personally don't care, but I know how it feels to deal with people who piss you off just because they like music you hate, so I feel kind of bad posting that shit in this forum. This was more a post out of respect for your community. I'm sure you guys deal with enough fuckheads. Thanks for being honest!
