There any "teens" in here that listen to real dubstep?

Post by Clean » Mon May 30, 2011 1:33 am

I guess this is a weird way to introduce myself but you will have to manage, and I know there have been a million topics about Skrillex, etc but here me out. I am from the US, so we usually get a bad rep for our contribution to the "dubstep" genre. To be honest I don't think we have contributed anything to the dubstep genre. We have made the train wreck of a genre called brostep.( Well I dont know if we can take all the credit for it.)To get to my point, I see Americans, and mostly kids being stereotyped all the time for listening to brostep, as it has started to get even more mainstream. I am a teenager, and I cannot stand brostep. I have to deal with other kids talking about how awesome Skrillex's tunes are, even though his synths all sound the same, and when I try to introduce my friends some real dubstep tracks I get "This isnt dubstep, and besides it sound like the same thing repeating itself." God it is starting to bother to me. I havent found a single person my age that listens to real dubstep. I really do not want to ramble on so I will get to my point.

- Are there any teens that listen to real dubstep?(Loefah, Mala, Coki, Scuba, Goth Trad)

- Are there any American artists that produce dubstep that does not sound like kittens being grinded up in a blender?

Feel free to tell me your opinions, I want to here what you have to say. Have a nice day... or night.

I'd say this is a pretty good contribution....

Yeah, there are tons of us teeny boppers who like "real" dubstep. Tons of us produce it as well. I'd venture to say that a large portion of our board members are in their teens. Some of us are less pretentious and more open minded to change than others but *shrug* I like kittens getting grinded up in blenders on certain days just as much as I like dark brooding sub bass on a swingy rhythm on others.

Edit : Oh my god, this Starkey track is ... just... :U:

there are plenty teens out there listening to well produced music, I don't think age is how you should be looking at it though, it all comes down to musical preference although i think it is known that a younger audience seem to follow trends easier, I'm from Sydney an the tear out stuff is the only stuff making a big impact here my news feed is constantly flowing with skrillex etc normally followed by a comment of how filthy it is, seems to be the trend at the moment an as I said before youth do follow trends easier. oh an I'm 19 been listening for about 3-4 years

I got into dubstep when i was 15, i'm 19 now, used to get into super dub pressure in brighton with a fake ID, those were the days. Saw so many good acts down there, I don't think it happens anymore, but being 15, in a club, seeing a Digital Mystikz b2b 2 hour set was out of this world, nothing has compared since. I remember seeing Loefah, Kode 9, N Type, Jamie Vex'd, Silkie, Breakage and so many others down there, wicked nights.

So yeah I listen to "real" dubstep, i do kinda hate how when i tell people I like dubstep the instantly conclude I love Borgore and Funtcase

i'm 18, we're behind the times here though, everyone else seems to listen to bassline and grime rather than brostep around my area

its funny cause nineTEEN was the transition time for me, where i moved away from 'brostep' but still liked it... then by abt the time of my 20th birthday i decided i really disliked robots and just listened to "real dubstep" (whatever that means)

no way is compa 14? :o
that guy can mix dmn good and has a good taste of music.

i'm 19, i was into dubstep when i was 15 i think that was pretty early for belgium since we did get the first international dubstep djs to belgium and then the scene exploded here.
It's about dropping a track at the wrong speed, and it sounding better than the real thing.
