birthday is this week...fostex pm1's or krk rp6's?
i looked around for some monitor threads but couldn't really find my answer. im wondering for the people who have heard/had experience with these monitors?
i have 400 to spend after my bday on a pair of monitors.
the ones that are catching my eye right now are the krk rp6's and the fostex pm1 mk2's

its a very tough one. i know the rp6's are solid as fuck for a fact. but every1 and their mum has them so the fostex do have an appeal to me in that manner. i just am hoping to get some feedback if anyone can compare the two. if the krk's perform better, i will go with them...but i just dont know.gen_ wrote:Toughie. Well to give you perspective the rokits are unlike other monitors in the sense that when you first buy them everything you make sounds awesome like your listening in HD. Mainly cost of the sub. Then, as your ears get used to better speakers, you start being able to hyper critical.
The problem for me is that after getting used to them, you become allergic to shit sounding stuff like iPod headphones and radios.
From what I've heard fostexs are like Yamaha's but better. To me that says top end that's clearer and more defined than the rokits, but a somewhat quiet low midrange and bottom. And the loss of overall casual listen- ability. I sometimes go to my mates yams just to mix vocals tho, as the difference is noticeable.

yeah i have always had good hi fi speakers in my car and home audio. so honestly iv been flaring up every time i hear a normal pair of computer speakers or anything of that nature. especially with dubstep because some basses sound like absolute shit with crappy speakers, but sound amazing with quality speakers.gen_ wrote:Well to give you perspective the rokits are unlike other monitors in the sense that when you first buy them everything you make sounds awesome like your listening in HD. I have KRK Rokit 6's. Sorta smashed mine against a wall, sounds normal. They are the only monitors I've ever used pretty much. I think they sound good.

look at it this way, you can either buy monitors that you know are going to be great or you can take a chance getting ones you dont have as much feedback on.

yeah i know it just kind of sucks that the fostex's could be just as good if not better. but wont get the chance simply because they are not as popular. all the reviews i have read on them say good things. but none are in comparison to other monitors really. and there is obviously a lot less reviews. i guess ill get the krk's unless someone can convince me the fostex's will be better.Dankstep wrote:look at it this way, you can either buy monitors that you know are going to be great or you can take a chance getting ones you dont have as much feedback on.
not that it matters much but i do like how the fostex's have a heat sink on the back of the amp.

bro, seems like you've said some silly things about why you're choosing monitors. My hat is off to you - get the krk's because you like yellow, whatever.
But you should take some music that you really know, and play it on various speakers in your price range. Absolutely make sure that they're level matched, as salesmen will do gnarly shit to sell product that may not suit your needs. Also beware of monitors that are hyped, boosted lows, scooped low mids with augmented highs. You're not looking for a monitor that sounds good. You looking for a monitor that realistically portrays your recordings.
But really, your ears should be the judge.

i actually don't like the yellow haha. i have heard the krk's and a bunch of other monitors in the same price range. i liked the krk's the best. i have not heard the fostex's though. not even sure if my local GC has them in stock or not.nowaysj wrote:bro, seems like you've said some silly things about why you're choosing monitors. I'm not sure that they do stock them, I don't think they do. I've noticed more eu/uk people use them, so expect they have a larger market share there? People have said that they're good. What about the tannoys?
Re: birthday is this week...fostex pm1's or krk rp6's?
I have only ever heard feedback on the krks from bedroom and forum producers tbh.
I have heard good feedback from studios that use Adam 7xs though!

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.
Re: birthday is this week...fostex pm1's or krk rp6's?
I have actually heard the Fostex's are pretty decent. Though I don't quite get the big hoo-har around getting the best monitors, As long as they are decent enough and give you an accurate flat response thats all you need. It doesn't really matter what sounds nice on them, it kind of defeats the object.
Abstrakt.

The most important statement of the thread. I've had plenty of my own experiences - but the worst was when I was with a friend of mine - and she went into B&H Photo to get a table top tripod. She explained to the salesman that she needed it for some stop-motion animation she was going to be doing, and the technical needs for the project, etc... and he kept steering her in the wrong direction & being patronizing in general. Not just some sales people are like that anyway, but definitely cos she is female looking for tech gear added to the patronizing.nowaysj wrote:as salesmen will do gnarly shit to sell product that may not suit your needs.
Finally she said "Look, I own my own post-production studio - I know what my technical needs are, and what I need is a salesperson who knows what the fuck they are doing - so can go in the back and see if you can find one of those for me?"
He went away pwned and the sales manager came back with many apologies.
