Colwyn Bay / Llandudno (North Wales, UK)

Post by deficit » Mon Jun 06, 2011 5:38 pm

Been running Locked Soundsystem things up in / around Bangor (North Wales) for the last few years, wondering if there's market for a monthly/bi-monthly bass music event in Colwyn Bay / Llandudno?

Any locals got anything to say?

Yo a mate of mine runs a monthly night in Aberystwyth called shuffle where he gets a 6k rig in the back room of a pub there called the Angel

Play everything really house/garage/funky/dubstep bass music all the good shit. Also do a radio type ting called chocolate chip with weekly mixes which is recorded in Aber in the term time

Not sure how this helps you thought I would reply anyway, also just realized how far away Colwyn Bay is

P.S. your system looks beautiful!

Speakers look good man. Also sick tune in your sig.

Good luck with the new Bass Music event. I'm sure if you pick a fairly small venue to begin with you could test the waters.

Cheers Barry,

Yeah, Aberystwyth is quite far from Colwyn Bay. Think I might give your mate a shout though, cheers for the links.

The problem is North Wales only has a population of 300,000 spread over a HUGE area, with a large proportion of that figure being Pensioners, Colwyn Bay / Llandudno are big retirement towns. Bangor / Aber on the other hand are university towns/cities (yes bangor is a city!) - a lot of our crowd is made up by the student population, but even so, with big headliners like Skream, Reso, Fabio etc we struggle to pull more than about 500 people. And over the summer there's no point booking any big headliners as there just aren't enough people to make it commercially viable. There just aren't enough people around.

I'd still really like to try and get something going in CB/Llandudno, but I'm not convinced the market is there. Venues are also a problem too. We need to find somewhere big enough for our system, but small enough to create a vibe if the turnout is poor. I'm not looking to lose any money that's for sure.
P.S. your system looks beautiful!
:) She's a beast!

Big ups :) - I figure you're Barry's mate in Aber? What's the scene like down that way?

knew itd be you tho.

mate, best leave those towns out of it, except for outdoor raves. you'd only get idiots and they dont want bass weight they want chart isht and clunge. steroids and burial? i dont think so.

good look with those speaker things though.

Depends what they're loaded with really, but to be honest, £1K for 2x mx600's (loaded) isn't a bad price at all. They're fucking solid and produce a nice sound. You'll still probably want some 18"s for sub though.
