i've really overlooked that since yesterday - tried massive's built-in(first timer

) and its 10x cleaner and heavier than what am using...and now i should start all my loops from scratch...
really didnt think that would be a big deal but it is one of the biggest that i've faced so far.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying that massives built in EQ is better than whatever else you were using?

Ditto, Massives EQ is basically just guesswork if I recall. You just get a dial with an 'EQ' label on it don't you

No, your right there, Abletons built in EQ8 is pretty terible imo. I should have known. Get yourself any freeware EQ and it will perform 10 times better.

True ... but if you use the build in analyzer and put it next to the eq it works well.

so i think eq8 is non-linear and distorts the phase more than every other - i didnt think of it before cuz i didnt compare it to anything...
i should try a linear phase one but there are pre echoings and ringings from what i've heard...
which one of these two types you use ?

Only EQs ive ever used are the ones on Massive, Live, and FM8. Live's EQ8 is probably my favorite of the 3 (havn't quite mucked with FM8 too much).
If eq8 isn't considered up to par, then hand me a 'good' Eq and ill do some work. What are some suggestions of some plug-ins?

Well its been proven in other forums that most of live's built in plugins are pretty low quality. (pretty much everything imo except operator, 3 and the other new synths) Just try playing something out of simpler compared to playing it just dragged and dropped into an audio track. I can't find it now but there's one that even goes on to suggest that EQ8 doesn't actually do what you tell it to with your top end. That was enough for me, I didn't like the colour it gave when I used it anyway.
Grab yourself a digital EQ (try here
http://www.aixcoustic.com/index.php?id=3 and set the EQ to digital) and compare them.

the result would be obvious when you're comparing linear and non-linear but try to push the linear(electri-q) harder...

If some one wouldn't mind,
Whats the differance between linear and non-linear eqs?

non linear = phase distortion - sometimes it boosts when you cut(other areas) or muddy your sounds (thats what eq8 do) or color the ehings up..
linear = sometimes preringin and preechoing etc..
linear is usin for mastering purposes and whole busses - subtle changes...
i know these things from macc's thread @ DOA - with graphics from Waves's EQ but dont have time to search for it right now..

Linear over non linear everytime, unless you KNOW that the brand is not only quality, but extremely respected. Waves and PSP are probably the only people I would trust to make a non-linear EQ that I would substitute for my main one.

I bought an FX suite while back. I think it was Novation brand. I mainly EQ though with Pro-Tool's default. I EQ and adjust volumes on everything as I go along. Then when I master at the end, I adjust the EQ a bit, compress, reverb, pan, and any other things I want to add. I never add distortions to my bass other than what Massive or Albino provides.

Im sure distortion isn't audible in all sounds? Or is it?'
I really appreciate the knowledge.
I guess what i'm really trying to find out is, how can I tell if an EQ is linear/non linear?
