Metal and Dubstep?

Post by sssShawnnnn » Fri Jun 17, 2011 7:01 pm

Hello DSF. :)

I'm currently working on a metal track, and I decided to include a dubstep drop at the end. So I thought this would be fitting here. I'm looking for constructive criticism on my track.

The dubstep drop occurs around the 1:20 mark. There's no actual sub bass in the wobbles during the drop since I couldn't fit it into the mix without it clashing into the bass. Presumably, most of you guys will be bothered by that. Any tips for mixing in sub bass with this kinda stuff?

EDIT:
Full song is up! :D

I added two more drops by the way, thanks to everyone's advice! The first drop is at the 3:20 mark, the second drop is at the 4:10 mark.

Thanks in advance! ^_^

axe the guitars through the drop for SURE. Otherwise it's not a drop, it's just "alright, now there's electronics involved too"

or maybe just lower them, theres no room for synth otherwise, also no build up, it just goes straight in so thats less exciting. I think theres plenty of room for sub though, just high pass the guitars, bass, and synth at around 75, 80 hz and use sine.... tbh though the track doesn't need sub. Its clearly not meant for sound systems, but more suited for home listening. U don't need to conform in that way, being as you've already crossed some boundaries here (something tells me the lack of sub isn't what would put the purists off on this one). go with whatever suits the track best as a whole.

its not dubstep, its metal with wobbles, you've created something new so make your own choice regarding the sub element. (not saying its a bad thing at all, its a great metal track)

Thanks Zimmerman and [2]Day! Really appreciate the help! I'll try to experiment around and see what suits best. I'm mostly convinced at this point that the sub isn't necessary. Again, thank you for the advice!

Loving it man. We are working on similar stuff ATM but in the opposite direction. It's more Dubstep with metal, not metal with dubstep. Check out our track in the sig, its the only one we have soo (completed).

big props on the production of the metal side of things, your guitar tone is really nice and crisp
but as said before, it's more like you've put some synths in which sound cool but i wouldn't class it as a "drop"
okay i take that back i've just got the second drop, fair play! It's good to hear genres coming together like that hah, keeps it fresh:)
