upgrade or not to upgrade (Mac Leopard)

Post by ShadowMachine » Fri Jun 17, 2011 8:36 pm

just curious if anyone knows/had experience upgrading from leopard to snow leopard. thinking about doing it not not too sure if I should?
it possible some plugin wont work or should they all work still just fine?
there any benefits or drawbacks doing so?

any thoughts on this would be a major help...

It'll make you 64 bit, (I think anyways) so it'll probably be worth it. If you can hold out for a few weeks though Lion is going to be coming out, and I imagine you can install it onto of Leopard.

Maybe I should read into it, I actually don't know much about it other than the app store or whatever, but i guess that's already happening. I figured it was just going to be some features that I'm never going to use for $30 or whatever it is.

Yep upgraded to snow leo ages ago, no problems with any plugin or app yet. Irs just leopard, but its been re-written to take advantage of larger amounts of ram etc... did a nice job of speeding everything up

Yeh will speed everything up a bit because it's a more updated OS that isnt bogged down by things like corss compatability for power PC's n shit. So yes, it would be worth it. Although you should open up your mac take a shit in it then jump on it with concrete boots on. Then go buy a PC. Hey I'm Mac Tech Trainee!

Snow leopard has beeen around for ages. Its more an update really and is currently on build 10.6.7 or something.

Lion requires snow leopard because it is only available from the appstore as a download.

It also creates a recovery partition so the need for the os disk isnt needed as such. However it remains to be seen how this will work if your hd completely fails.

Replacing the drive, reinstalling sl and then re downloading lion seems fuckin long

Obviously new macs should still ship with recovery disks ora usb drive like with the air.
maybe his magical jew carpenter compelled him to speak out

yeah but then Id have to install all that anti-virus and malware and so on and so forth, and then do and bunch of other boring and stupid shit like install drivers, and make sure all my parts are compatible, and then I trip over the powercord and it breaks and then Im fuct....
OR

....

OR..

....

I could just NOT do what you said and love using my computer, beachball is soo more appealing then a bluescreen.... plus aluminum is just more GWAN, then plastic... and steve jobs would win in a fight against bill gates, even if bill gates won, cuz jobs would just talk up the fight so awesomely people will just think he won....but at the end of his schpeel, he'd prolly say something like "still no flash, as it eats battery life, HTTP5 is where its at", then 5 people outta 50000 will go out and buy an acer and hate there lives lol
