Just get down every idea in your head really quick, then watch Adventure Time and eat blueberries. Go back to it the next day and edit it. That's how I do it.

tiz a good combo. cept i tend to produce without cigarettes around me. they really bring down my energy

if you cant focus when you're lean, then don't smoke... or smoke less. nothings gonna help you focus bar stimulants - probably. i mean some people can get in the zone when they blaze whereas others just think they're in the zone. if you find yourself confused, loop monging or twiddlying nobs and forgetting why then you're probably in the latter. and you need some fresh air.

personally, ill probably be sober or not too lean when i start. once i get to somewhere im happy with i might skin up again and take odd tokes. but if im in the flow ill just allow it and save the zoot for after. nothing worse then thinking youve made something dope, then listening to to it the morning and being like "da fuuuck?!", which occurs much more often when im lean. but sometimes its nice to experiment and make cracked out wiggy noises.

I don't have a problem with people who smoke while producing - I used to do it myself...

..but if you can't stay focused, then just don't do it while producing. Pretty simple answer if you ask me.

The opposite happens for me i just slip into the music and forget about everything else. i dont get alot of my tracks finished but im like that with everything creative im fairly critical of my work. i dont really produce in conventional way either i record all my parts and generally i get my best work done at the keys and mpc and i listen or atleast i feel in my mind im listening more intently and feeling my music more when im stoned and perception is everything but my tracks are not dancefloor bangers either cause thats not me so i assume its a character thing but def dont bother if you think its making your music worse or maybe get some external hardware for making tunes!!! any1 else like to produce good and kaned??

in the day : eat before i get to work.

in the night : eat while i'm working.

i tend to rap incredibly well for my level of skills when im drunk...

yet i produce like shat. i think producing the way i do it (mixing along) doesn't go well with being stoned...

it could be doable if i had a proper workflow.. i need to improve my workflow that way i could do funny stuff and then get to biz.

OP...I ask, in what context are you losing "FOCUS"? ...i.e. you get lost in sound synthesis, you never complete tracks, etc....Basically all I'm saying is, if you losing focus means that you would rather do something else than produce music, then you need to take a look in the mirror and do some thinking about how you spend your precious time on this earth.

Now if losing focus is anything but that, then brother, you have nothing to worry about. As far as I'm concerned, whether or not you're stoned, spending time in the DAW is the bottom line "magic button". So what if you never finish a song in your life b/c you always get lost in sound design? I'm pretty sure that you could synthesize some dope bass though lol

Personally for me, it's a lifestyle and I know nothing different. However, any day that I can spend more than a couple hrs in the DAW, I usually find myself getting so carried away with a musical idea, I don't even give a shit that I haven't hit it in a while. Making EDM is fuckin waaaay too cool to love anything else as much...maybe wife and children some day, but yea....you get my point

I used to produce stoned quite a bit, but the problem was that I'd fall into the trap of listening to the same drum loop for hours on end, every time changing the snare or EQing the kick slightly differently to produce some inpercievable small change in the sound. Waste man.

Now it'll be either a good cup of coffee, green tea, or more than likely a bottle of water.

I'm the same as wub, too much attention to detail when im stoned. I lose focus as in the track as a whole, though I still enjoy it.

But yea, nothing worse than listening to shit you though sounded awesome when you were stoned after you've sobered up haha

Whem I'm stoned, I usually tend to spot everything and my mind is always brainstorming ideas. When I do find one that I like / can make it, I stick to it untill I like it. When I'm sober I just tend to apply small changes, editing it etc.

Producing while stoned is really good fun
