Skrillex is a sampler
For the producers that want to be like him ... whoever you are ... sample, effects, save, resample, more effects, save, apply to a trigger (keyboard, maschine, MPD, MPC or w/e). He is very familiar with pads put it that way.
Stop making shit harder than it is. KISS = Keep It Simple Stupid! 99.9% of dubstep producers are not mathematicians or computer scientists (unless you're GV1). The majority of young dubstep producers twiddle knobs and don't have a clue what there twiddling aside from ADSR and filters.
Finally Skrillex basslines are very choppy. There is very little release (adsR) on most of samples. Dead giveaway.
Hope that helps his fanboys.

Re: Skrillex is a sampler
i dont like skrillex but i may try to go about my bass like this just to try something different.
Re: Skrillex is a sampler
It's actually very common. Sampling and resampling basslines is the most common way to achieve that complex sound, but because it sounds complex people tend to think complex when it's actually simple.lyons238 wrote:i dont like skrillex but i may try to go about my bass like this just to try something different.
Sticking them on pads and hitting them in various sequences adds even more complexity.
Edit: The only thing that's hard, if you're new to synths, is programming them. But I'm willing to bet many of the so called top producers use patches.

yeah i know a lot of people do it...i just never got around to working that way and you reminded me that i want to try it.GV1 wrote:It's actually very common. I'm a computer scientist, but I don't see how that helps.
Re: Skrillex is a sampler
It won't help a computer scientist. But as a computer scientist you would have more of an IQ than the average Joe.monkfish wrote:I'm a computer scientist, but I don't see how that helps.
Wait. Actually. Scrap the above. You can't be a computer scientist. I was wrong. You can study computer science, which is the study of computers, but the term computer science does not relate to a job title. You can be a programmer, or a database engineer, or a CPU architect ... that has studied a computer science degree but you can't be a computer scientist because such a job does not exist. If you've studied computer science, you've studied a range of topics that encapsulate the study of computers </geek>.
Anyway, yeah. Your response was about as helpful as mine.

I got the lowest pass possible on my maths exams a while back, and been programming since i was a kid.
Academic ability doesn't affect you're concentration on what you WANT to learn, instead of being forced too.
If a person wishes to learn what they hope to acheive they will.

What was you doing studying a degree you was "forced" to learn? You should have studied something you wanted to, unless family forced you into the degree.jaimelee wrote:I got the lowest pass possible on my maths exams a while back, and been programming since i was a kid.

Come on, you're taking this out of context.
Re: Skrillex is a sampler
Possibly I am but the last few posts were just as useful, I'm just saying there are plenty of threads and posts and video's around that will teach you this.
True that many forget about them and start asking the same over and over.
The thread start is good, just dragged away a bit there.

All I can say is, I was wondering how smart GV1 was, haha.GV1 wrote:It won't help a computer scientist. But as a computer scientist you would have more of an IQ than the average Joe.monkfish wrote:I'm a computer scientist, but I don't see how that helps.

But as far as I know, "Computer Science" is only a course name. But if you have a degree, I think you're allowed to call yourself a "Computer scientist".
Re: Skrillex is a sampler
I can agree on that. Although "Computer Science" is the wrong name for the degree. "Computer Studies" might be better, but it don't look as official or formal. I've done a CS degree.monkfish wrote:All I can say is, I was wondering how smart GV1 was, haha.GV1 wrote:It won't help a computer scientist. Re: Skrillex is a sampler
It's funny, OP, I was just thinking about this (how sample heavy Skrillex is) in the car on my way home, and this pops up.
Pretty much, just get Kontakt and use that. You can map samples to different keys. Rout your midi keyboard to a synth, and your pads to the sampler. pound away at the pads, and play melodies to the drum beat.
Then go back and fix the mistakes. Viola, a perfect Dubstep breakdown.
I was thinking about posting a tutorial on setting up a sampler in this way, maybe I will now! It's very basic and SUPER easy. In fact, you can probably find a dubstep multi for Kontakt or whatever sampler you're using!

Re: Skrillex is a sampler
I took a sample of my girlfriend saying "I'll shoot your bitch" and pitched it down quite a bit, then ran that through FL Vocodex and basically I became skrillex and grew long black hair behind my left ear.

Re: Skrillex is a sampler
well yeah he does resample, im not sure if he intially starts off with a sample, no one can say that to b sure. i actually replicated that godzilla sound when i first heard scary monsters, by intially sampling a rich harmonic sound. its not the sample at the start that matters, its the added effects that make it. a recent post on DSF made me lol, moaning that people talk as if resampling is magic & the answer to everything lmao! well tbh you can replicate ANY sound & make it better with resampling
if you read the production bible & actually take in the info.. then listen carefully to any skrillex sound, you'll know exactly what to do to get it.. if one is that eager to achieve those sounds.

Re: Skrillex is a sampler
Its easy to create a song. All you have to do is write the parts and mix them down.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget.
