> Almost 2 months

Haha, give it time. Don't force improvement, you can't anyway. Just experiment and practice more.

ive been producing for about 5 -6 years, dubstep only about 7-8 months, and i still think im shit, i have yet to finish one dubstep song cause i think they are all shit, your always gonna be your own biggest critic, you have a youtube comment "Amazing! I love it :D" let these comments and feedback drive you to make more tunes, push yourself, and thats when your tunes will start to sound better to your OWN ears, cause obviously other people like it, dont let that little voice in your head, "you suck, go post on dsf and tell everyone you suck" ignore that voice, and just makes what sounds right to you, cause other people are likin it so get back to it!

2 months? Not being funny or anything, but I've been producing the best part of 6yrs and I'm still improving. This isn't something you just get good at overnight, it takes time and practice, practice, practice.
samdam1 wrote:Guys please dont troll this post and say, "there are other posts like this" or anything like that...
Well, there are :|

Have you read through all the tutorials, watched all the masterclasses, tried all the techniques that have been mentioned on here? No? Well, there's your starting point.

Practice practice practice. No other real tip that anyone on here can give you.

get stuck into some basic music theory, learn about synthesis, learn about rhythm, syncopation, and most importantly melody, keys, modes and general composition theory. Stop focusing so much on the generic tutorials of genre 'x', stop trying to sound like your favorite producer, stop getting pissed off that you can't, cut wayy back, fuck with your synths and learn them inside out. Write melodic shit thats nothing to do with your genre(s) of taste. Listen to things you normally wouldn't and critically deconstruct them from an analytical perspective. Stop trying to produce music you can't yet and understand your place in the scheme of things. If you really do truly want to make music as a natural aspect of your desire to express yourself then put in all the ground work necessary, develop the patience needed and take your time to gradually climb the steep ass slope digital musicians must climb to realize the tools we all must to finally be able to get the ideas out of their heads and into reality.

Art is art is art, seriously, learn the shit you've already got your hands on deeply. Actually sit down with a daw/synth and experiment; and for gods sake don't expect to make anything decent yet, that's the best advice anyone could give you, understand that you are learning and see your time in your DAW as just that, a learning process, develop your own academic approach to it all and develop your skills through practical experimentation and critical analysis. Above all else, chill out! slow down and enjoy the creative journey!

Not quite what you expected? But all very true non the less. :4:

FOR F*CK SAKES

Dubstep is not just wobbles.
Ignore the wobble and make good music.

i have learned that whatever instrument you try to learn and do not see any improvement(as in very little or a lot) in how you are playing in at least a few weeks you are not meant to do play that instrument since it is not for you. but if you still want to keep going then you should I suppose try producing with a different approach like almost like starting over. listen to different genres of the music you are trying to make or listen to the genre you are making try working with different genres. genre this genre that sorry if this is all gibberish to you i am trying the best I can. i can be a very demotivational person and motivational. if you need help i can assist if you need help killing yourself i can help as well.

If Dubstep is the only genre of music he listens to and makes, that's harder in practice.

I came from House and Trance, and there is a lot of musical theory I can apply to Dubstep.

Try listening to a variety of musical genres and most importantly, learn music theory!

Very valid point this.

Folks should try to make std, 120 bpm beats.
No genre specific sounds.
Just beats.

Go from there.

Ive been producing dubstep for about 6 months now, and i think i understand how you feel. The first two months for me were honestly frustrating because there is so much to learn, and i did not want to take time on it. I wanted to learn everything quick and crank out a tune a month. well, im still working on my first tune, and listening to how much its improved over time, i am amazed how by just applying new knowledge and experimenting can take you far. My best advice is:
Start a tune, just ONE TUNE.
start to build it and finish it.
then, dont release it. hold on to it.
as you explore the genre more and learn new things, apply them to your track.
this track will sort of act as like your means of applying new things youve learned.
in no time your poopy track will be a great tune, because you applied new knowledge over time.

i hope you decide to take my advice! :)

I don`t think this is the best idea.
Working on one track will probably cause him to become frustrated and stuck.
Work on multiple tracks, multiple sounds, multiple genres.
You`ll find a sound that you like.
The best move I made was working with Stylus RMX.
Instant ideas at your finger tips.

Practice practice practice practice....

and study everything you can find. Sound design, synthesis, music theory, vst manuals, etc. I posted a similar thread a few months ago so i know how you feel. I'm starting to notice an improvement but you really have to work at it!

Also learn to use the tools you have well, don't make the beginner mistake of hunting down 'that' plugin, as none of them will magically give you an awesome sound. Just learn what each thing does and try different things out.

About 1 year for me and I've only made a handful of shit songs. You just have to enjoy the learning experience with you and your DAW.

what synths are you using to create wobbles?
Native Instruments' Massive works wonders for that, a bit pricey though :/

Every single post in this thread was positive and helpful. Please OP, feel very privileged that you received responses like this. Not to mention, they are all you need to go by for the next year. Wub pretty much covered it with resources. It's a rarity that someone can be a musical prodigy and just load a DAW and within months start producing some legit music. For the majority, we have to come to the realization that just spending time in the DAW is the fundamental basis for improving. You want to accelerate the learning process...?...Become a research whore utilizing this site, DOA, Google, and YouTube. What do you research? That has been answered through and through this thread.

Big ups to the community on this one!

I should make a tutorial on how to get good at dubstep in 20 minutes or less.
