How to go from producer to live event?
Do you have to become popular before you start selling events and holding your own? I don't really understand the process. Can you only tour with a manager and label?

Obviously you if you're an unknown producer your first gig ain't going to be headlining glastonbury.Mear Bace wrote:Do you have to become popular before you start selling events and holding your own? I don't really understand the process. Can you only tour with a manager and label?
You can either try and get a spot on an existing event (until you've got a proven track record and a following you're going to be getting bad spots in the line up) or create your own. Now promoters/venue owners (in general) think in terms of how many people your act/event will bring in and will this be proffitable for them. If they see the dancefloor full while you're doing your thing, you're going to get more gigs and better slots.
If you're putting on your own event then you need to put your business proposition to the venue owners (talking number of people you think you can get to come, pricing, how you're going to promote it etc). Remember even if the owners put on that sort of event for the love, there will be the bottom line of profit - if they lose money then they ain't going to be impressed.
As for touring it probably won't be worth it without some sort of following behind you and if you'e got a decent enough following chances are you've already been signed and if you're doing well enough then a manager may be a good idea (so they can handle all the bookings/fees/etc while you worry about the tunes

hmm contact promoters send them you're tunes don't sound desperate though.. maybe make a promo mix and send it about but it helps like 10,000,000,000 if you're good at producing if you're at the same level of dj'ing as someone else but they are an amazing producer the promoter will pick them
