Help LoDubs!

Post by garethom » Wed Jun 22, 2011 8:08 pm

Just got this e-mail from LoDubs, thought I'd spread the knowledge!
As many of you may know, LoDubs, the small, yet widely known American Dubstep/Garage label, is entering its fifth year, and has gone from the label that released some of the first records from artists such as DZ, Starkey, and 6Blocc to breaking new artists that have expanded upon the sound, like Pacheko, Clubroot, and Swarms, most through our hand made releases in their slightly crinkled, Kraft brown paper sleeve.

The projects we are we are now looking towards releasing are from the last two aforementioned artists, Swarms and Clubroot.
The first project would be to release the new Swarms album as a vinyl double pack, including bonus material not available on the current release. The second project would be the anxiously anticipated third full length from Clubroot, which will also be a double vinyl, including a multitude of extras.

As much of our working capitol has disappeared thanks to a dispute with our long time US distributor, we are offering a slew of special bonus items in an effort to get these releases moving, the likes of which will enable you to shape the way each release comes together.

As a bonus for your pledge at the designated level, and in addition to other rewards, we are offering the possibility for a pressing of each release on a color of vinyl only available to those who participate in our campaign here, should we reach the goal at that level. We will also print the names those who pledge to this campaign through the packaging on a release, as a way of saying thanks for helping us continue past this bump of adversity. See the amounts for all the details on that and other bonuses for backers.

Anything we raise beyond the amount we are in need of for these two releases in this campaign will go towards other projects from all the artists on the label you know and love, and new faces as well.

As a way of Pre-ordering these releases, or as a general backer to allow this effort known as LoDubs to continue, we hope this campaign brings You as much satisfaction to participate in as it does for us to be able to continue bringing this music to the masses.

Thank you!

Just pledged $55 to this, would've loved to have pledged more, some of the stuff you can get is immense, but quite frankly, don't have that sort of money. Would love the Swarms & new Clubroot album on coloured vinyl, so make it happen!

Its a real shame that this quality label has had to resort to such measures in order to secure future releases. But this is the industry we're dealing with right now....

I have allot to thank the LoDubs crew for. I would never of persevered with this music malarky if it wasn't for the hand of opportunity and encouragement that came my way a few years back, so I'm backing this 100%.

Spread the word, and help if you can.

Where do I actually go to pledge? Has someone got a link?

Also, @garethom - what did you sign up to to get the email?

EDIT: Don't worry about that, found it on Clubroot's facebook page.

Here's the link, go pledge!

 Doh, forgot to post the link! Sorry.

I can't remember ever signing up to anything, or buying from LoDubs directly (I do have releases from them, maybe I did buy one direct :? ) but I just got an email from them. Would love to see this happen, always wondered why the swarms album didn't get a vinyl release, and was buzzing when I heard there was a new clubroot album!

Bump.
I must admit, it really worried me to click the "Submit" button on this campaign. One week in and we are over one third there though, so I hope everyone is as excited about the prospect of making this a reality as I am!

A great many people with real affection for what LoDubs has created have really led the charge. One of which is the Portland based beat producer Johnny Bueno. Along with being an ardent supporter of the sound of LoDubs, He has been producing for a great many years, creating a sound that distills the best from the deeper, more meditative side of Hip Hop, the more fluid aspects of the abstract downbeat movement, and touches of original instrumentation.

All of these pieces are stirred into his great full length The Hearts Blood, which can be checked out at the link in his name. We have Johnny Bueno to thank for not only being a since-day-one supporter of LoDubs, but for his pledge to provide us with a copy of his full length to be included with any shipment for backers of our Campaign over $10. So look forward to a bit more in that package that will land on your doorstep, should we succeed here!

As for succeeding, we are amazed by how quick it has went, but at the same time, we do not want to spend all the next couple of weeks badgering the same people about our campaign. We would really like to encourage all who have an affinity for what we are trying to do here to encourage anyone you can to get involved. If they are just slightly interested, maybe a $5 download EP would get them really into this sound! If they are a little more willing to dip a toe in, $15 is an amazing price for two CD's, any way you slice it! and if it is someone who buys vinyl, $30 to preorder something that will be as exclusive as the Kickstarter edition of these releases is quite reasonable as well, and even better for both releases ($55). every bit helps.

As we have noticed a great many of the backers are also individuals working on creative projects, we will likely take a bit of time to spotlight each of them we know about in future updates! It really is the least we could do, and with regards to that, sharing with each other information of the great things we each do is really what this is all about, right? Please drop me a word at anthemrecords@gmail.com if you have specific info you would like to share with regards to this, or if you have a suggestion of anything.

Finger crossed, but We're off to a great start!

Thank you,

Jon AD

Another update:
A little over two weeks left, and we are at half way! Much as many things have been with a label that steeped in this music, yet based in Portland, this is both a point of celebration, and a indicator that getting it up to the level of a successful campaign will represent a significant challenge. I think we all know it is possible, as the goal to be reached is not that great, and in a sense is pretty nominal compared to the fact that it is a goal that will result in the creation of something that will effect so many who hear these recordings. Should we be successful, we will all to be thanked for this.

With regards to moving towards what could be, and as a way of both giving people a taste, and providing a bit of incentive, We are going to roll out the first of two download EPs this week that will be sent only to backers of the campaign, which will contain exclusive tracks from Pocz and Pacheko, 6BLOCC, Jaybird, Chrissy Murderbot, Swarms, and Clubroot, and in the case of Clubroot, the first will contain a very difficult to find (Yet largely regarded as a classic) track, and the second will contain something something completely exclusive. both only for you backers, ever. I will flesh out the details on these tomorrow, so keep em peeled!

I can't tell you how exciting it is to see how many people are willing to help out with this cause, and who now and forever forward will be considered a part of LoDubs! Really, for every release we manage to offer up to the world from here on forward, each will be linked to the fact that those who came forward for this campaign made them possible! I can't thank you enough!
