problem with mixing need help!

hello guys i started this idea and i would like some help with my mixing. this synth have many high freq and the flanger helping working but it gives the movement i want. however the highs will fuck up ears on high volumes. but when i eq and take down some of the highs then the synth disappears and its not as present as i want.

any ideas what i should do to fix it???? thanx in advance

Are there any other instruments or samples in the same frequency range which could be clashing with the synth you're trying to control? You might be using all of your headroom and more in the aforementioned frequency range. Try keeping the synth you want EQ'd as you like, then EQing out the frequencies of other synths/samples that could be overlapping in the same range.

Try the following...

take your BEST high budget parametric/graphic eq ... and set one of its mid bands to the highest gain boost... (should look like a huge bump and create a noticeable unpleasant resonance)... then narrow its Q down to the minimum possible amount... (should look like a very narrow vertical peak going up)...

then scope through the entire frequency range very slowly.. with your monitors set to an appreciable level of loudness.. by tweaking the frequency of that band (i do it by tweaking the numerical value itself rather then the dot on the graph)..

u will hear all sorts of frequency boosts, each exacerbating different characteristics of your sound... they should all be different but all be of similar amplitude... however, every once in a while u will hear that odd volume boost on one of these frequencies, accompanied by some kind of ringing impression in ur ear....

whenever u found a spot in the spectrum where it gets noticeably louder, leave the band there, and change its boost value to a cut value... so it becomes a narrow dip.. then adjust the q and cut amount to taste...

your sound wont screech as much once ull have done that for a couple frequencies...

be patient... and tweak step by step.. take decisions at each step.

the loudest frequencies are likely to be the first ones to reach the level where it fucks wit ur ears. if ur able to attenuate them without changing ur entire sound... u might be able to make it more listenable..

Start out with some subtle pad work and keep it quiet. Maybe trickle in some percs and vocals to build some tension. At the appropriate time slam her with a big fat sub and push in your midrange. Make sure to pull out your midrange before it's too late though because you'll need a breakdown before long. I think your problem is you're going at it too fast, you gotta break her in first otherwise you ruin the fun

Don`t just EQ the loud resonant frequencies, search for the place where your sound will fit best by notch eqing.
You`re most likely placing the eq in the wrong place.
You`re hearing the loader, higher frequencies as well as those you want to keep.
