Best hardware synth for wob bass?

Post by synthetikpsyko » Mon Jun 27, 2011 5:13 pm

Greetings. I am a complete and utter n00b when it comes to creating and producing dubstep, ( :Q: <<< me)so please refrain from insulting me too much...
Basically I was wondering what hardware synths are good for a nice wob bass sound... HARDWARE part is very important to me as i want to be using it in a band format, and I really dont have the computing power for a low enough latency. Thanks in advance!

Access Virus
Waldorf Blofeld

Are the two that come to mind. What sort of budget you looking at?

entry level budget really :( The Waldorf looks the more promising of the two in that aspect.

In that case, have you considered maybe beefing up your computer and then adding that to your live setup, vs. buying a hardware synth as this early stage?

Just a suggestion.

If you are set on a hardware synth, then a MicroKorg might be within your price range.

I will certainately consider it! The Microkorg appeals to me considerably though. Thanks for the help!

What about the new M-Audio Venom? Haven't read any reviews but it's supposed to have some squeeling highs and good distortion if you want to make some good dubstep wobbles.

Anyone got anything to say about the Novation XioSynth? Looks like exactly what I want.

my friend has a xiosynth, he uses it as a spot to dry his socks in the winter... its an AWEFUL sounding synth... i promise... i hate it so much its crazy...

dont do that... save ur money for something more cleaver. the game ur trying to play is a game of patience... ur better off buying way less often, but buying good stuff...

think of it that way : a virus could serve u 20 years ... if u buy a xiosynth, ull want to upgrade 6 months from now.

im being subjective but id never settle for something like a xiosynth.

If I was going to spend money with Novation, it would be an ultranova. That comes out with some pretty slick sounds, for about $1000 AUD. I'd save even more though and get an access virus ti snow.

To the OP, tbh - I'd be saving even more than that and getting a laptop and midi keyboard. Even a cheap laptop will run a good DAW with some great stock soft synths, and with the midi keyboard you'll be able to take it with your band.etc. Not only that but you could then extend with a big sound card and start recording shit your band is playing ;)
