Benefit Fraud
I have a sneaking suspision my neighbour is a serious benefit fraudster.
She hasn't worked for at least 22 years, claiming to have a bad back (she seems to walk ok, and run up and down stairs a lot). She also had children at the exact same frequency that child benefit runs out (every 18/16 years), she has someone come to her house I think daily, I'm not entirely sure why this is as her youngest is at school in the daytime, so presumably cleaning maybe.
She also rocked up a couple of weeks ago in an '11 plate £60,000 Land Rover.
So she's either accumulated an awful lot of money, or just won the lottery or something. Surely someone claiming benefits can not afford such a car? Even on Finance something like that would be £800pm.
What would you do? Should I report her? would you?

Re: Benefit Fraud
Shop her in. Without a seconds thought.
Re: Benefit Fraud
I'd do nothing and not care. Even if your suspicions are correct, I believe it's best to leave these things to karma.

Re: Benefit Fraud
well I would feel bad if she went to prison or something, but I also think it's disgusting that she lives off the state.
say it's true... she's got away with it for at least 22 years, she'll probably get away with it forever.

Re: Benefit Fraud
The funny thing is she might not be committing benefit fraud given how much you can get

Guy at work has been with his Mrs for like 14 months, When they got together she had two kids by two men and was pregnant with a third from a third man, She had birth and within a couple months was pregnant again with TWINS. He's gone from 0 to 5 kids in less than two years and is genuinely considering, Opening, Leaving work and living off of the benefits.
Needless to say if he does everyone will literally tear him apart here.

There are systems in place for people who truly need the assistance. Using the system just because you are lazy? Then you deserve whatever the consequences are for your fraudulent actions.

Re: Benefit Fraud
I know a guy who is 28, never worked a day in his life, and is on the sick for what is essentially some form of minor insanity but there is fuck all wrong with him and he is happy to tell anyone this, he doesn't take the drugs they have prescribed him...he comes out with (after his rent is paid for in central Manchester) just short of £200 a week and he spends all day in a premium gym, twating weights.
He claims there is no way for them to really test him for a mental illness as long as he plays it right but they have just brought in a blood test to check if he has been taking the suppressant drugs he has been prescribed.

Anyway, a woman at my work who left just before I started had been claiming benefits WHILST employed here. She's only recently been caught after 2 years and all the courtroom business is happening now into the next few months. Her best mate still works here with me and it's just weird. She'll get caught eventually, I don't think it's possible to live THAT under the radar unless you're homeless or some shit.

Re: Benefit Fraud
The trickle down effect of a tory government
Personally I am not really that bothered that some people abuse the welfare system in this country. It's a small price to pay for having the security of a welfare system, it may not be the best - part of the reason people commit 'benefit fraud', but it's there and it's all we've got. I wrote to the government asking how much they lose on benefit fraud each year and how much they spend on the prevention of benefit fraud, including advertising, tv campaigns, government and local government departments that are set up to tackle benefit fraud etc. and of course it exceeds the cost of benefit fraud it's self. Quite interesting I thought - coupled with the fact that MPs routinely rob us of tens of thousands of pounds in expenses, quangos, PFTs, corporate tax fraud and so on then the problem of benefit fraud is left looking really rather insignificant.
I'd also assume that the cleaner is paid for out of her disability allowance or more likely provided by Social Services or an NPO. And they're probably not a cleaner, they're quite probably a carer and is your neighbours only life line to normality so her daughter can go to school and have a normal life. Most of the carers in this country are unpaid, are children or other family members. There's even charities I often liaise with who only exist for child carers, they put mum and dad up for a week with another professional carer and take the children to Disney Land or riding ponies.
What's to say the Land Rovers hers? Fuck, I sometimes can be seen in a Lotus Elise R but it isn't mine!
C'est la vie!

if you think benefit fraudsters are truly the ones stealing money from you then you are a mug of the highest order
what's wrong with the world these days, fucking snoopy snitches ready to turn their neighbours in, but too apathetic to stand up to the state
