Mixing Without Headphones

Post by GV1 » Mon Jul 04, 2011 3:59 pm

Anyone ever had to do this?

We're putting together a mix CD and just had a fellow DJ round. He wanted to hear my selection but for the life of me I could not find my 1/4 jack. I have 10+ around the house but could not find one. So I was like ... erm ... ok lets go without headphones. I actually surprised myself because I was able to get them on beat in seconds. Might start doing this on a regular basis it disciplines you to fix up very fast.

The question is, has anyone had to do this in a live environment ... with success? I can imagine DJ's with their ears to the stylus lmao.

All of my stuff is mixed with headphones for the most part... but tested on different sound systems and adjusted thereafter before the final mixdown.

I've been forced to do this live, and it's awful. Sure you may be able to get stuff matched up "in seconds", but that's seconds too late. Your audience should not have to hear you tinker.
