Headphones

Post by belalala » Thu Jul 21, 2011 5:12 am

the time has come for me to get some new ones. been eyeing the sennheiser hd25s for a while now but just stumbled upon this glowing review for aiaiais today:

http://www.digitaltrends.com/headphone- ... -1-review/
Image
To be perfectly frank, it has been a long time since a headphone has managed to arrest our attention so quickly. Given that we test a lot of headphones, we usually have to relax into the sound, allowing for ears to become accustomed to some of the nuanced differences that separate different models and designs. The TMA-1 sounded incredible right out of the box and just as beautiful in the first 10 seconds as they did 20 listening hours later.
...
These cans may be marketed to DJ’s, but they have such fantastic midrange and treble response we think that audiophiles with a secret love for guttural, punchy bass will fall in love with them. We also appreciate the fact that the TMA-1 manage to look classy without a bunch of glitzy branding plastered all over them. Their industrial-grade construction also gets our nod for making this set of headphones tough enough to take anywhere.
:U:

who has some favorite cans to recommend?

I can't stand those little headphones. They just don't feel right to me, but I know lots of people who have no complaints.

I'm currently using the Sennheiser hd 280 pro's, I love em

yeh but, having had both phatty headphones with pro sound and styley ones with lackluster performance, i'd like somewhat of a compromise. audiophile functionality and crisp design. clean lines and clean basslines. you feel me?

What's the goal of using them? Production?

If djing find a pair with a removable cord from the headphones themselves. Most headphones I have bought ended up having probs w/ the cord (IE Sony mdr700s). I forgot what headphones Milanese uses but he is a headphones producer if I can remember right, and his sounds are crisp as fuck.

Yeah, this.

Mine are about 12 years old and still going strong, one of my best ever buys (along with 1210's). Check a website like the outlook one with DJ pictures: 90% have them, tried and tested.

....although, depends on budget and what you are using them for, excellent for DJing (sound isolation, durability, loudness, replaceable parts), but there are more comfortable and better audio quality headphones out there.

nah, mostly day to day listening tbh. i mess around with mixing and production on a very amateur level but i just want the best sound i can get for long walks, schoolwork sessions and lengthy trips on public transportation.

thanks for the feedback. seems like there's a pretty solid sennheiser fanbase on this forum and surely it's for a reason..

Those cans in the op are great.

I got my self a pair of Audio Technica ATH-ES55's for portable use the other week. Definitely recommend these if you're looking for portable cans under £100:

just buy them alaialaalaaias ones

they look sick

they probably sound quite nice

and there's not much sound isolation so everyone around you whereever you go will be able to hear you listening to super cool tunes and think you're great

im being honest here btw

flip side of that is you also get to hear all the background noise on the tube or wherever rather than actually hearing the music you want to be listening to

The AIAIAI TMA-1 cans are pretty much a stylish version of the HD25s. They sound similar (aka exceptional) and are about the same size. Buy either depending on taste/price.
I wouldn't be able to go a day without my HD25s.

Re: sound isolation even when I crank my cans up to almost full volume, as soon as I put them on everyone around are only able to hear a quiet whisper, if anything, so I would say the isolation is pretty good. And the outside world is completely inaudible.
Although, while on the bus the lower frequencies tend to become a bit blurred because of the vibrating, but that's the only thing I have a complaint about and I don't think there is much to do about that.

which is excellent cos everyone will be like 'yo that tune is class' and 'she must be really good in bed if she's rock aiaiaiaisdlaall's' etc. etc.
