E-MU 0204 USB audio interface problem

hi forum,

i have a problem with my audio interface(E-MU 0204 USB), i use it with ableton live 8. I was planning to use my synths and my mic through the E-MU's inputs, but the sound from the inputs crackles and pops every once and a while.. like every 10 seconds it makes a little pop. I experimented everything, buffer size, sample rate, volume, different cables etc. i am completely out of ideas...
Maybe some of you have a solution for this problem?

Try cleaning it, no joke. Try to record in something else to see if it keeps crackling/popping. Record into Audacity if you don't have any other software. That way you'll know if the interface has issues, or it's some kind of problem within Live.

Can't recall if that version has preamps? If so, turn them down?

Could be your system having latency spikes.

download that, install it, and follow the guidelines. You should optimize your system until its relatively low, definitely below 50, or more likely 20.

So, i used it with Audacity and it crackles only a liiiiiiiiiiiiitle bit. after every minute or so.

Well i thought i'd forgot something, i use a Mac, so the "dpclat" won't work on it.

Had a similar problem on my laptop, ran some utilities to optimize and always did a fresh restart before opening live for recording in. Works great now. My laptop is real old though, glad to have my desktop out of storage after a year.

It definitely sounds like you have a problem. Don't just accept the crackle, get to the bottom of it. I use the 1616m, and never have any kind of trouble at all. Is your computer old?

My computer's mabe 3 years old. 2 of the first years it was used by my aunt, who only read e-mails on it.

Same, using the 1616 and 1212 on a regular basis, and never heard anything like that.
The only time I did hear something comparable was when I needed to replace and clean the cables. They don't last forever. I also take some compressed air to the interface and inputs every couple of months.
