Some vinyl tracks cut 0.2 bpm slower?

After a brief experiment today, I realised that some tracks pressed to vinyl are cut 0.2 bpm slower than their digital versions. This is probably common regardless of music style, but I noticed it in house tracks with their straight 4/4 kick (hence posting in house). Odd thing is that it is almost precisely 0.2, and some tracks arent slowed at all.

I'm guessing it is something to do with the mastering/cutting process. Anyone know?

I notice a slight tempo change when I rip my vinyl, could be the turntables though, some tracks more than others too

i thought that might be the case at first, so i checked a few different releases that ive got on digital as well. some of them are exactly the same tempos (as expected), but some of the vinyl tracks are slowed by .2bpm as mentioned ...

i reckon it's your turntable, i have my pitch altered so the bpm on the 0 is actually 1 bpm faster

hello mate if i were you i would:

1)rip your vinyl with a good turntable
2)warp it in abelton to the right tempo plus 0.2 bpm to get it back to normal (use repitch warp mode)
3)then bounce it out (WAV)
4)send it to your local vinyl cutter to be recut at the correct tempo
5)play it at home and marvel at the similiar bpm's
6)winrar

obviously not much of a bother really. just more of a curiosity. i do, in fact, have too much free time, so i ran through a bunch of other recent releases. i think the -.2 only occurs consistently on records that go through ST Holdings for distribution...

Maybe some of the vinyls are slightly heavier? Try weighing the vinyl that is 0.2bpm and comparing it to the ones that are spot on.

............as you obvs have alot of spare time. lol.

havent got a scale, but im not sure if it makes a difference for my setup. the technics 1200s were designed pretty well to stay locked at the right speed despite (small) variations of opposing force on the platter

i think it comes down with who cuts the master, and what speed the lathe is running at. also, although i noticed -0.2 bpm, it is most likely more correct to say -0.15%.

ive noticed that "Sam from Precise Mastering" is fairly spot on, while "Bean" (not sure who that is) cuts at that -0.15% (or whatever it is). also, ST holdings (with the block stamp info in the runout groove) stuff seems to do that same slowing business.

i feel like my OCD has been satisfied at this point

That's most likely Beau Thomas, hardcore/jungle producer back in the day and now a mastering extraordinaire.

The issue you have mentioned is most likely to do with the calibration of your turntables, although it's not really an issue because they are hardly out at all. Either that or you really do have too much time on your hands. lol

im still convinced of this phenomenon. 33rpm are spot on but 45 gets slowed the same amount. cant let this go

trust me kompis, the use of a pitch slider doesnt bug me.

the thing that bugs me is that there might be a good reason for the consistent 0.15% slowdown on records that are cut at 45 but not at 33. but if there is a reason, i dont know it and cant find it documented.

it's pretty simple, it just means the lathe used to cut those records is running slightly fast when running at 45. so when you play dead on 45 it runs slower...

i only play pure 140bpm dubstplates
139.80bpm is brpstep tempo
